How much of a problem is the tranny fluid/water pump?
Hey guys, been reading up since I'm getting closer to purchasing a 2007 GS350
Originally I was looking at an 07 AWD with 136k miles, but I found out it had been in an accident before and had 3 owners so I wrote it off. Recently found another 07 RWD with 88k miles. Only two owners, no accidents, mostly dealer serviced with the second owner going to a different shop for oil changes and brakes it looks like but still staying with a lexus dealer mostly. The only thing is from what I can tell the water pump hasn't ever been replaced and the same for the transmission fluid and it's at 88k miles. I'm having the dealer check for me if either had been done to be sure. I was wondering though your all thoughts on neither of these having been performed this far into the car's life. I'm sure I could beat up the dealer some on the price (13.9k) if neither of these services have been done, but I just wonder if it would affect the longevity of the car at all. Obviously these are the first two things I would do if I purchased the car, as well as probably an oil change.

I don't think either of those things will give you leverage with the dealer since neither the water pump nor tranny fluid is on the maintenance schedule. The water pump could go 200,000 miles, but they often start to fail around 80,000 miles, so it's better to replace it around 80K for $200 then have it fail on your way home, lose all your coolant and damage/destroy your engine
As for the tranny fluid, Lexus USA says it's lifetime fluid, but Lexus Canada says to replace it every 60K (keep in mind that the transmissions and the fluid are exactly the same on both sides of the border). But since you're in Florida, there's no service interval for the fluid
As for longevity, the water pump shouldn't be a problem – usually a failing water pump would either be caught early enough that it's not a problem, or it would fail completely and a new engine would be put in. With the tranny fluid, just make sure it shifts properly and doesn't slip and it shouldn't be an issue. My car had 90,000 on the original fluid before I changed it, and it's still working perfectly 20,000 miles later

I don't think the longevity is affected by still running the original water pump or tranny fluid, unless the vehicle was abused.
Simply factor these costs in when you negotiate the price of the vehicle.
