Default IS350 Rear Differential in GS350

Is it possible to swap IS350 differential to GS350? Has anyone done it before? Looks like the differentials are the same except for the shorter gearing in IS. I'm planning to install IS differential in GS for added performance.

Actually looking at pics on ebay they look different. Also the flange for the driveshaft is different, 3 bolt triangle on the GS350 vs the 4 bolt round

Also the attachment points look wider on the GS

Actually the units are exactly the same expect for the drive ratio so it is possible to swap them; I may do it in the next few months.

Just wanted to provide an update. I have successfully swapped the rear differential from IS350 to GS350, it was a direct fit. The IS350 differential is much more aggressive than GS350, which makes car significantly more responsive.

Is your car AWD or RWD? How did it affect your mileage?

Mine is RWD; I haven't driven it long enough to report regarding the fuel consumption. My IS350 gets 29-30mpg on freeway with same differential so I would guess the GS would be the same since the drivetrain is exactly the same.

I also wanted to add that i successfully swapped it on my is220d too.
The casing match. However the companion flange on the front was a smaller version on the gs350 awd than on my is220d difference was 5mm i think, This however was solved by just moving the companionflange between the units, a new nut is required.
So now i finally have 3.727 ratio in the rear of my is220d chassi, connected to an r154 with 1jz.

I need to look up the specs of an IS350 AWD to see if the front diffs are different since i have a GS350 AWD.

I’m going to try this out as well. When you said direct fit did you use the same axles ? Did you have to modify anything?

GS350 2007 model.

I used my old axels, casing is the same dimension fits straight in. Only the companion flange differs between is220d differential and gs350 diff.
But you can swap them over. The companion flange is the part that connects to the propshaft.
