Default '07 gs350 a/c compressor shaft

'07 GS350, 90,000 miles. I shorted the alternator hot lead while changing alternator. Blew fusible link and starter relay. I replaced the fusible link and starter relay and everything worked again, except the a/c. A/C blows only hot air. Compressor turns and blower works fine. I took it to the local dealer, who said the a/c compressor shaft was broken. Cost to replace $1,750.00. It seems like too much of a coincidence that the shaft just happened to break while I was replacing the alternator and a few electric parts. It worked fine before I changed the alternator, and was not started again until all work complete. Has anyone had a similar experience? Seems like it should be related to the electric problem, since it worked before I started working on it.

Maybe they meant the AC clutch, that is usually triggered with 12volt power. If its the clutch you can just change that itself but sometimes cheaper/less hassle to install a new compressor.

I would grab a volt meter and test the wires to it before anything. You will find a wire coming out of the clutch and a plug, unplug it and probe 1 side of the volt meter with the other side grounded to the metal body. If your getting power and nothing is moving on the clutch then its bad. If youre not getting power then its another issue maybe a relay, ac control module, maybe the ac display is faulty. You may have a loose wire from installing the alternator.

New Denso compressor with clutch is $300 from RockAuto. Should be easy to find somebody who does quality A/C work in Florida and install it for a few hundred. About 1/3 of what the Lexus dealer wants.
