Default Tires recommendations

I'm looking to buy a new set of tires for my 2011 - GS350 - RWD and needing some recommendations. I need tires that offer quite and comfy ride. I currently have Michelin A/S3 pilot sport and to me it's pretty noise. Is run-flat tire also an option?

Run-flats are absolutely not an option if you want a quiet and comfy ride. Run-flats are good for armored cars and military vehicles, but for passenger cars they're much harsher than normal tires, and also about twice the price of normal tires.

For quiet and comfort, I've heard good things about the Continental Extreme Contact DW and DWS – since you probably don't get much snow in Texas, the DW is probably the better choice

I currently have Toyo Proxes 4 Plus on my GS350, and they are very quiet and provide a smooth ride. Good grip in the rain as well. I also heard good things about BF Goodrich Comp-2 A/S tires. I am thinking of getting a set when the Toyos eventually wear down. I have had them on for about 25K and they still have a lot of tread.

Definitely look into the Continental PureContact also in addition to the DWS06 (replaces DWS now) or the DW. Another option is the Bridgestone Serenity Plus which from personal experience is a great tire. Last but not least, the final advice is to look into "touring" tires which are more or less made for low noise and comfort; don't let any tires shop tell you other wise that they are all "all season" tires now.

I've tried Continental Extremecontact dw, Kumho Ecsta and right now I have Bridgestone Potenza RE760 sport. Overall I like the Kumho more than the Conti, but so far the Bridgestone is riding nicely.

I got the 225/50R-17 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 ALL SEASON PLUS SL
They were half the price of the Michelin's and have been excellent so far.

+1 on this! I had a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS for about 2 1/2 years and I live in Mass. Quite and comfy, great traction all year round, good tire wear, and decently priced!

Most of Lexus run on Michelin Sport A/S 3 or Bridgestone tires, and they're quote pricey. I have the A/S 3 sport on my GS350 now, overall good tires but not quite.

I was in the same boat as you a couple months back. I was running on the Dunlop 5000 run flats on my 2009 GS350 awd and 1 of them got punctured by a piece of metal and was kinda big and so unrepairable. Read somewhere not to replace just 1 tire on awd cars so decided to go with 2 but 2 run flats were about $600 so there arose the delima, replace 2 run flats or replace all 4 with all season tires for the same price.
Went with the latter. Reading all the reviews here and on other websites, I decided to go with the Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Very quiet and smooth ride but hated cornering and just the whole feel. Felt like I was back in my ES vs the GS.
Did some more research and exchanged the Continentals with Pirelli P Zero All Seasons. Still very quiet and a smooth ride but little better in cornering. But maybe it's just me but I miss the Dunlop Run flats. I know they were loud and harsh but at the same time so much fun to drive. I am in Chicago so needed something with better snow traction and although the Pirelli's are decent but I just don't feel comfortable really pushing them. The Dunlops, I would drive like a maniac in the snow and always felt safe and in control. I guess there is a reason why Lexus chose them as OEM tires.
Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

I've been doing a lot of researching and see Continental Extreme Contact DW was recommended for smooth drive and noise, and price is about half of the Michelin. I think I will try it this time and see.
Thanks all for recommendations

I recently put a set of Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus tires on my AWD GS350. They are smooth, quiet, comfortable, and have positively remarkable wet traction capability. My gas mileage dropped a bit but that happens with new tires; it's improving a bit now that I have 5K miles on the tires but I suspect it will never get back to what it was with the bowling ***** that were on the car when I bought it. Snow traction is only so-so but I didn't buy them for that so I'm happy.

i'm running Michelin Sport Sport on my OEM 18s on my RWD GS350 and they were the best upgrade for my car that I've done. Fantastic all year tires for me, since I live in sunny Southern California with a big improvement in grip and braking vs my previous crappy all seasons. I know you are looking for quiet tires and I don't know if they will be quieter than your A/S tires. Not sure if summer tires would work for you but I personally would be inclined to run a summer and winter set if I lived in colder climes.

I recently went through the same decision making process for my 09' GS350 RWD. I had to replace a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3 A/S's. I drive like a grandma, no hard cornering, tire spin, etc. and 80% of my miles are highway. I rotated every 5k miles, kept car in alignment, tire pressures in check, etc...religiously....and I got 43k miles out of them. They are a 45k mile rated tire. Plus...the last 3-5 k miles they developed a vibration at highway speeds that couldn't be solved with rotation, balancing, etc. and seemed VERY stiff over the small bumps, etc. Very annoying. I was willing to sacrifice a bit of performance characteristics for a more quite, more forgiving (ride quality) and longer tread life. After quite extensive research I ended up putting on a set of Continental Pure Contact's P245/40/R18's. They are an all season "touring" tire that are vey highly rated (tire rack, etc) and are rated as a 70k mile tire. I've got about 3500 miles on them so far and noticed an immediate improvement in ride quality, noise, tracking. They have a bit less stiffness entering a corner which is expected...but I'm very happy with them and they look good too. I know that is not super important...but it is to me. The tread pattern looks "sporty" and they are still low profile, etc. They were pretty moderately priced too. I'd recommend them.
