Bad struts?
My GS460 has become noticeably sloppy handling wise, part of which is due to switching from max performance summer tires to snow tires, but the car feels like it sways back and forth almost at higher speeds, doesn't feel planted at all, the steering wheel is also slightly off, like the alignment is off but I've gotten two alignments and its still there, Ive read that can be caused by a bad strut. How much have you guys paid to replace front struts on our cars? I know the 460 has the adaptive shocks, I know a local Lexus shop that's much better prices than the dealer and was wondering what a good price would be to have the front two replaced.

I paid for 2 hours in labor and $200 for two new OEM shocks on a GS300 awd, so obviously replacement shocks cost will be different, but I'd expect around the same in labor, for me though the dead giveaway that my shocks were done were the cupped tires (I'd check yours). Even after the replacement and the alignment I Had the same feeling you are describing which went away when Input the snow tires on, so it may even be your tires. A quick glance at the site I used for parts, the adaptive suspension is $256 per strut (vs the $100 I paid per for mine) but despite the cost I would personally keep the factory system. I kind of learned on my 2nd gen GS that aftermarket parts cost you more in the long run and there were a few instances, especially in the front suspension, where noises I thought were caused by something else were caused by something I had already replaced.

I'd never had a strut go bad before on any of my cars so wasn't sure what average cost was. It almost feels like my car is getting blown back and forth by wind when I'm at highway speeds, feels really unstable above 70 mph, all of this was after getting my snow tires mounted though so I wonder if maybe something is wrong with one of the tires or if the shop did something.

My GS is at 164k pretty sure all suspension is original aside from previous owner replacing one of the rear struts and possibly inner tie rods. Car still drives very smoothly, no noise or anything over bumps, alignment has been off after two alignments, but I've only had this issue with the snow tires on, thinking it's possibly the tires, although they're basically brand new. Hard to tell if the bad handling is the snow tires or bad suspension component. Having it checked out after xmas.
