Default oem 17" to oem 18"

Hello friends, I've an 08 AWD that came with 17'' wheels and now I've finally put the 5-spoke 18'' oem RWD rims on my car. Surprisingly the 18'' is lighter than the 17'' when I lift them up, also my car feels light now and it's faster. Maybe because the 17'' has more spokes I don't know. What do you guys think?

I did the same mod. 18s felt sportier since they are wider. I went with size 235/45/18 vs 245/40/18 for comfort and to fill in the wheel well more. No rubbing. The 18s really freshen up the looks

Nice, glad you like them!

And yeah, fewer spokes may well be why they're lighter. It could also be that the 18s are made from a higher grade of alloy (stronger, so less metal is needed). Or maybe the tires you had mounted on the 18s are just a lot lighter than those on the 17s. Do you know how much lighter the 18s are than the 17s?

Also, did you end up getting them from the dealer, or from the refurbisher?

I went with the 245/40/18 size and the ride did not change for me whatsoever. and also no rubbing. I agree with the look!

No when I left them up they're without the tires. The 18 is lighter by at least 4 lb each wheel. Also the steering wheel now is very light which reminds me a lot with my previous ES. I got the wheels brand new from the dealer

The tires on the 17s were 7 years old performance tires and the 18s brand new winter tires.

Good choice going with dealer tires. And wow, 4 pounds per wheel actually is quite a lot – I wonder if that explains some of the performance difference between the AWD and RWD.

And yeah that light steering, it's the one thing about our cars that always bothered me a little bit. If only Lexus had dialed back the power assist by 10-20%

haha wanna race ? no seriously I mentioned this before, I noticed a difference in performance after installing the 18's. And if I'd race a RWD, they might be ahead by half a car just due to the HP loss from the front differential in the AWD.

The steering in the 17's wasn't that light but again that was because of the heavy a** wheels.
