Sub Woofer & Amp
So I just upgraded cars- went from a 1998 GS 300 to a 2006 GS 300, which is really a testament to the car. I love them. But my new one won't respond to anything below around 45hz, as my old one would, like a boss. My old one has a factory sub-woofer and of course separate amp, and although I never looked closely, I assumed the amp had some built in crossover functionality and could have exclusively powered the sub.
I know there is a speaker in the back deck of my new(er) GS, and there is an amp in the trunk, but not good enough. To put 45hz in perspective, go find the song by Digital Underground called "Freaks of the Industry" and listen to it on something that does respond to 30hz or so, with some power behind it. In my '98, I can play that song and I suddenly want to go find my mother and slap her. In my '06, I'm like eh, big deal. I did search this forum and the Internet for help, but didn't find anything.
My question is: is there a factory upgrade that does not require swapping out the deck? I also tried to identify the type or model audio system in my new GS and, unless I'm missing something, I can't figure it out. I don't see it on my carfax or on the VIN decoder here. And I'm not averse to swapping out the deck, or head unit, as long as it's not the most difficult thing in the world and in doing so, I can also upgrade to navigation and backup camera.
BTW, my '98 has 248,000 miles, still stronger than ever, and this one has 69,000, and like showroom new. If I could get my hair to grow back, my life would be perfect. Oh, and be able to hear 30hz. Thanks!
