Default Opinions on a 2006 GS300 AWD

Another thread, I know. Just wanted to let people know that I just test drove a white 2006 GS300 AWD with 140,000 miles. The current owner bought it in December 2015, and already is selling it (makes it fishy). For the last year, it has been to Lexus dealer many times for various complaints. One being oil consumption (1 qt in 1,000 miles), misfire cylinder #6 (replaced ignition coil and spark plugs), bad battery and alternator, leaky rear and front CV axles which looked fine to me, and a fuel related problem which they performed a 3 step flush. I pulled the dipstick, and already it's below the add mark since they filled it less than 500 miles ago so that means it is burning 2 qt in less than 1500 miles. It seems that this Lexus dealer doesn't know about the carbon build up because it's never been done. While driving it, I noticed that the RPM occasionally does fluctuate 1-200 RPM at idle at a stop light (bad sign). Initially, I didn't tell the seller that I'm a mechanic and am aware of the common issues with the 06' GS300.

My reason for starting this thread is simple: now that these cars are out of the CSP, what is the best option for repair since Lexus is obviously not going to help?

This car is in amazing shape otherwise.

The simple answer is to not buy an 06. This question has been posed any number of times and the answer is consistently, no.

I just bought an 08 and have never looked back.
Hope that helps.

Well of course I'm not going to buy it.

Maybe I'm not being clear, but what are the options for repair?

You are not being clear.... Your options are to do a top engine cleaning which will alleviate the symptoms but in the long run carbon build up will continue to happen and progress. Even when the dealer changed out the Pistons and rings to reduce blow by it will still not be a permanent solution. The issue with this motor is the design. The direct injection design on the gs300 will continue to produce blow by. The gs350 had a better design with direct and port injection which seemed to have solved the problem. I had a gs300 prior to getting the 460. Car ran great and had the engine rebuild from Lexus but ultimately I couldn't live with knowing I would have to worry about carbon build up its entire life.

As for oil consumption. I have no clue what you can do to fix that. It is common among a lot of vehicles even the gs350 had been known to burn oil. Dealers say it's normal but who knows.

Its is not common for the GS350 to burn oil, 350's are a solid engine, minus the weak point the water pumps.
