I decided not to wait until there were signs of a leak. Had 90K+ miles and did some preventive maintenance and had mine replaced. Heard of too many horror stories of water pump failure.

I know that this a common problem on the 300 and 350. How do the v8s fare with their water pumps? I'm starting to think I should replace mine even though there is no signs of leaking. I'm at 97k miles.

I haven't seen anything about the v8 water pumps either way on this forum, though that could be because there aren't many out there (only around 1700 GS460s were sold in the US). Probably would be a good idea to check the LS460 forum.

So far no residue or coolant visible under the pump. Since I already bought a new pump and going to order a idler pulley/thermostat & housing seals I'll just have it changed since my mechanic will be in the vicinity of it anyway.
Car temperature gauge doesn't show any signs of temp issues, and the rattle noise does subside as I've mentioned above after the car has been warm for some time. I hope to have this car well beyond 150k miles in healthy condition lol
