Default Coming out of a RX330, going into a 06 GS300

Hello folks, after 4 years with my 04 RX330 I just sold it and planning on getting a 2006 GS 300 with 50k miles on the dash.

I know there is a bunch of information on this forum regarding this car, but im a nutshell, what are the things I should look after on a GS 300? Is there any common issues I should look after? What are the common problems on this car?

I already made a first contact with the car, no lights on the dash, however I run my Actron Code Diagnostic tool and throw a code: P2118 TOYOTA - Throttle Actuator Control Motor Current .

After a quick search on the web I found it could be a faulty fuse, anyway, anything could be helpfulk for me

Is the transmission fluid recommended to be changed as in the RX?

Anything is welcome, thansk in advance guys! You have always being very helpful here!

Regards

The 2006 GS300 is notorious for oil consumption issues as they age, as well as the carbon buildup issue that also took down 2006-2010 IS250s. The 3GR-FSE that comes in the 2006 GS300, is likely the least 'lexus-like' engine produced to date. It is evident why it was only available for one MY.

Aye sir, stick with the '07+ GS350 if you wish for a V6. You really can't go wrong with any other 3GS engine variant.

Thanks for the advice. Guess the 06 GS430 is the same story as the 06 GS300?

Quite the contrary, the GS430's 3UZ-FE is the most bullet-proof engine the 3GS ever came with. It is slightly older technology and requires a timing belt and water pump change every 90k miles.

If the piston recall was done, would that prevent the likelihood of oil consumption?

Might I suggest an '08-'11 GS460? I know they cost a bit more, but it's well worth it in the long run if you plan on keeping it for a while. I almost picked up a 430, which was an amazing car, but the 460 just did it for me, especially with the 8-speed transmission. The minor interior updates are nice also. Hard to find, but might be worth holding out for if you're willing to put down a bit more cash. If not, I'd definitely do what ThomasGS4 suggests by going with the '07+. Best of luck.

06 GS engines are just as "bulletproof" as the other variants, check out the other members that own 06's, they have 300k km+ (including myself) the oil consumption doesn't bother me too much, as long as you do regular maintenance, you're fine.

But not worth it considering there are better options out there and the margins between the models are only getting smaller and smaller as time passes.

Of course there are better options, if I had the money I would've bought the LS. It's whatever is in peoples budget.

Lexus Master tech here,

STAY AWAY FROM ALL 2006 GS300's!

Even if the pistons/block were replaced recently, it will only delay the inevitable, and if it's not the engine, it'll likely need a tranny soon enough.

get any year GS400/GS430, or an 07+ GS350, and you will save yourself thousands of dollars in repairs.

What Year? 2006 has the old Gen 4 Nav. The ultra rare 2007 GS430 Gen 5 Nav
