Default Leaking Tranny Fluid from pan gasket and seal

I took my gs350 for a drain and fill today. Before They did anything, The service advisor called and told me the pan gasket is leaking along with a seal? Im aware of the gasket on the pan but wasn't able to get any info on the seal. Does anyone know what they are talking about? Is it a seal that is replaced regardless of leak or not if they drop the pan?

Got quoted 700+tax for pan drop, replace gasket and said seal with fill of fluid.

As far as I know there is just a gasket unless they add some kind of RTV sealant to ensure a tight fit.

If I were you, I would drop the pan and change filter/fluid. Now is the time to do it.

If you're not handy have them change the filter too. But knowing they are charging you 700 to just drop pan, add gasket and fluid, hell they may charge you another 500 to change the filter lol.

have you replaced your filter on your GS? If so, did you put a DIY tutorial on here like you did for the drain and fill process?? Thanks

I will when the snow isnt on the ground anymore. However, another member (go to the end of my DIY transmission fluid thread) dropped the pan to see if a filter was there. It is in fact. He didnt give a write up but if you PM him I am sure he can walk you through it.

More than likely the pan isn't leaking. I've done a bunch of these and 99% of the time its the culprit. As far as the filter goes, its very easy when you get the pan off. Its 3 10mm bolts and it comes right off.

So, Othic....what exactly are we looking at here? That is a crush washer/gasket for a plug, it seems, but for which one? Not the fill plug apparently. The "check level" plug?? Seems the one in the photo is missing the head?!

That's the seal behind the cover (picture #1). Its for the manual valve lever shaft. Its on the drivers side of the trans.

Bring it to a good transmission shop, order the silicone and Toyota world standard fluid and have them do it. Watch them so you know it's done right. There is no pan gasket on these cars from the dealer. The dealer sells a special silicone for this. Also might as well replace the filter as well. You will save more money this way as it's not so hard to do if you can pump the transmission fluid back in to it

When I worked for Lexus we never installed any gaskets as I've heard customers complaining about leaks a lot.

Can u elaborate?

You never installed anything that had a gasket associated with it

Or

You never replaced old gaskets after changing parts (like water pump)

Or

?
