My 3GS is losing oil. Why???

Unless Lexus made some major change to the basic design that I'm not aware of. But I recall reading that the 4GS was going to have a carryover powertrain. :smh:

It's the same engine as the '07-'12 GS 350. I can't imagine why you won't run into the same problem at 60K-90K like so many of us have.

I no longer need maintenance soon reminders on my dash...i get the Low oil level and know that I'm due for an oil change

Guys dont worry this is not an epidemic lol our engines will not wear out its rings. But as a precaution and normal maintenance wont hurt to help keep the rings clean from carbon buildup by doing an induction cleaning. Change your oil at the correct time, and youll will be fine. Im at 130k miles and no oil issues here,

I'm not too worried, it is what it is. Besides a failed alternantor and main fuse, this car has been fine (I'm at 140k). We just bought a 2015 GX not too long ago and I'm currently shopping for a 2012-2014 IS-F as a supplement to the GS, since I don't want to sell or trade my GS awd. I've got too much in mods and regular maintenance that it makes more sense to keep it than to sell/trade it for what it's market value is. I think with Lexus.. V8 is the way to go!

Hey everyone, I haven't logged on for awhile, so I thought I would check to see if I'm the only one losing oil in my 07 GS350. I've been recording my oil loss since around 109,000 miles. Interestingly it started using after Lexus did the cam gear upgrade campaign. I'm at 120K now, and go through 3 quarts per oil change! Recently took a 700 mile trip and used 1 quart! Once it started using, I switched to 10W-30 which didn't seem to help. Just changed oil last weekend (cause it was a quart low anyway and close to 5000 mi), and switched to the "high mileage" 10W-30. I'll see what happens...... Kind of upsetting, I used to never have to lift the hood.

if it has anything to do with the cam gear recall, I'll have to start monitoring.
I actually have less than 50k miles on my 07. I'm curious if I'll have oil consumption at such low mileage

I bought the car with 48K, and the car was only serviced at the dealer. I asked him about the oil and was told it was born with conventional oil so that is what I used. Mobil super 5000 5W-30. Can't see how the cam gear campaign would increase oil consumption but I'm still suspicious. Started the car yesterday after it's been sitting for a week. Sun was shining down at the perfect angle in the garage. Reaching in with my foot and hitting start, I ran back to check the tail end.....not a hint or wisp of anything! Not a drop on the concrete. But I can see a discharge (hate to call it a cloud), in the rearview when I cobb it. Like pulling on to the freeway.....

If you have this consumption issue then stop using expensive motor oil.
The entire reason for using a full synthetic is that it does not break down over time. It retains its viscosity and lubricating abilities basically forever, it just gets contaminated.
I've seen chatter about bad oil cooler hoses. While you'd think you'd see leakage signs, I suppose it's possible that if it only leaks a tiny amount at a time and primarily while in operation, you'd miss it.
