Hey,

My car just went to the dealership because my alternator finally died. Have just hit 106,000 miles, they are strongly recommending I change the timing belt/water pump to. It still runs fine but they are telling me it can go any time now and if it does it will cause way more damage then if I just change it now?

What are your guys's thoughts?

Yes...

It may be good for another 60 000 miles, or it may snap tomorrow. the amount of work to "check it" is the same as the amount of work to replace it. You will spend the the $600 sooner or later (unless you plan to get rid of the car soon)

Timing belt will "run fine" with next to no indicators, but when it snaps your engine is basically scrap.

Ok I will go ahead with it:

So what I am getting changed now is as follows:

Alternator and Serpentine belt
Timing Belt and Water Pump
Engine Coolant, Transmission Fluid
Service including oil change, air filter, cabin filter
Spark Plugs

Anything else you would recommend at this point?

+1 lol, had mine's changed at 90k along with all my fluids changed (except engine oil).

dealers are negotiable, some more than others.

I paid quite a bit less for my job @ Lexus, it was still under ta1972's quote after I added all my fluid changes.

Last I checked it was 1200-1400 for the timing belt job @ your dealership.

At 107K my 07GS350 still has the original water pump and accessory belt.
I should be replacing the accessory belt soon.

I have 117,000 and they told me I had to change the belts and water pump was leaking... So I guess I am on the same boat as you guys... They also said my valve cover has oil sweats...

Hey thanks for the replys

So what I got done from Lexus was the alternator, serpentine belt, spark plugs, timing belt, water pump, fluids all changed incl diff, tranny, coolant, engine oil, and regular service incl cabin and air filter for a grand total of $2150 cdn.

Should that cover everything I need to get at this point?

Yes it should pakattack. You're set on all fluids and stuff.

Should have squeezed them for brake fluid flush too
