Default REAR Sunshade - Visibility Issue

Good morning CL,

I had a question regarding the rear sunshade. Currently my sun shade is stuck in the middle position and it is very annoying and also is reducing my visibility in my rear view mirror because the bar is in the middle of my view. I took it to my local dealer and they said just to put it in the lower position would cost $800-1000. Does this seem fair ? I didn't break it, and why should I have to pay for something that is a malfunctioning part. The worst part is my rear view mirror is also turning black in the inside of the mirror also reducing my visibility ?

Any help of recommendations would be great, thank you guys....

I think there is a thread somewhere with another member that had the same problem and he and a friend got it to go down or up by pushing the button and manually helping the sunshade.

For 800-1000 you might as well replace it...lol

800 to get it down sounds ridiculous. I would prolly call Lexus Corp about that.
When my wife's 06 GS had the same problem, I took it to the dealer and got it fixed. The bill was $1300. I was happy it was under warranty. No way I would have paid that much for something I don't care much about. The only cool thing about it is watching it go up and down when going through the shifts. Once you tint the window it means little.

They said it was about 4 1/2 man hours , I guess that's why they came up with the price they gave me. I will try Corporate and write a nice letter and see if they tell me. Thanks for the replys

Your mirrors are a safety hazard and it should be replaced free of charge. Mine's was replaced twice because I was unsatisfied with the second replacement having a few lines in it.

If you can't seem to get them to fix the rearview mirror issue, you can disassemble it and send it off and get it back for $99 or $120ish for the replacement laminate.

The website is floating around somewhere here on the subforums, PM me if you can't find it.

FWIW, $800-1000 better not only be to put it down, but to FIX the issue also!

They said that was the price for them to look at it since they had to get behind the seats LOL,

They claimed it was like 4.5 hours of labor charge. So the advisor said to leave it alone.

you're out of warranty.

unless you're a very loyal lexus service customer, lexus HQ probably isn't going to help you.

I had the black crap on my mirror, and lexus offered to pay $600 for the $1200 mirror.

Fk that ! Check out the other thread where someone bought an 07 es350 rear mirror from ebay and took out the mirror glass and swapped it all for ~$30.

as for the rear sunshade, it's broken already, so just force it down manually.

Please don't flush your money down the toilet like this.

if you want to try your hand at DIY and take it out yourself, look at this manual

Thats the thing, it won't go down manually unless they get behind the seats , which is like 3-4 hours labor...

Where do you get this?? I feel like I'm missing an arm trying to work on this car without a shop manual. I need to replace an axle this summer, I'm pretty comfortable with it, but it would be so nice to have a manual for things like this.

Yep, the pdf thing is what I'm not with yet. Working two jobs and raising a family doesn't leave a lot of time for tinkering, or monkeying with trying to download and arrange all this stuff.
