Default brakes hard upon start up, then normal after I start car

I noticed last night that the brake pedal was hard when I tried to start the car...then it softened up after I started the car.

does this mean my booster is starting to go bad ?

it usually feels normal and soft to the tap when I press the pedal and hit the start button.

any thoughts ?

Have you been pressing the brakes when the car is off? Happens to me when I have someone press the brakes when the car is off to tighten my lugnuts. Normally shouldn't be a problem unless it keeps happening.

Should be fairly normal if u press the pedal a number of times. Now if your pedal goes down all the way when you brake you could have seized calipers which i am having the problem right now.... or you need to change your pads, or water is in your brake fluid system.

Your brake booster Check valve is failing
There is a hose from the engine intake to the brake booster. This hose is attached to a small one way valve.
Normally if it fails it allows the booster to pull air inside causing what you feel.
Replace that valve and the rubber o-ring and it should be good to go

Its normal to be semi hard when starting because you have no vacuum assist when the engine is not running

this.... If this is true, after i fix my seized calipers and my pedal is squishy, the this will be my next go to DIY sounds sorta cheap to fix tho...

ok guys had the car checked out at longo lexus in el monte, they took it overnight and said everything was ok.

I feel comfortable taking their word for it. The service advisor Paul and all they other guys seem very knowledgeable with everything.

I gotta say, they have the best customer service ever. I was given a loaner as well. U can't beat lexus service. Mind you my car is a 2007 and it has 108,000 miles.

Ya looks like a few IS guys also brought this up but there were no safely brake functionality issues.
