Default New-to-me '11 GS460

I'm on enough car forums to know that it's a little goofy to do an intro thread on a car that you pretty much expect to leave absolutely bone-stock, but then I wanted to show my enthusiasm for the vehicle as-is. My only regret: that I didn't order this car when it was new, with blue paint and adaptive cruise control.

I flew to Augusta GA on the red-eye from Denver on Saturday, picked it up and drove it the 1550 miles back in 21 hours, stopping just once to sleep. The rest were gas stops, I averaged 26 MPG. I hit a snow storm in Kansas that nearly blew me off the road (6-7 cars were less lucky) and was passed by an orange Charger running from the cops in Kentucky.

I've watched the GS460 market for the last ~7-8 months, harassed dealers as the cars came and went and finally pulled the trigger on one. I specifically wanted a 2010+ for the upgraded navi (bluetooth phone + audio streaming), and there were never more than 4-5 of these cars for sale at any one time. Sometimes there was only one or two. There's a silver one in Washington with 29K miles that just isn't moving at all lol

So here it is, and besides some tint and a clear bra it isn't going to change much:

The cars I do modify:

2011 FJ Cruiser
2006 Honda S2000
2006 Honda Big Ruckus (250cc scooter)

Rather than try to buy one all-around car that does a few things OK, I'm collecting niche vehicles: the FJ is my offroader / ski trip / bad weather vehicle. It lives outside and drives over just about anything, but is rough and bouncy. The S2000 is my weekend mountain road carving vehicle for when I don't plan on driving on dirt, fun to drive but with a focus on performance over comfort. The Big Ruckus is my 63MPG daily rider, when the weather is nice. He saves wear&tear on all the other ones.

And now the GS460, which is the distance cruiser for when I have somewhere to go for me and up to 3-4 others and want to get there in comfort and style.

This is my third Lexus, after an '08 IS350 and an '07 LS460. I loved the engine/transmission in the LS, but the car was too large and floaty. That engine in the GS is the perfect mix of performance and comfort for me.

Happy to be back in the club

Welcome to the club man... Or should I say welcome back again! Clean ride other than you mentioning its bone stock. Interesting cars you've owned and have as well. Any plans for your 460? I know you have other rides to play with but just curious to ask if any you have plans for your 460. Sexy and powerful I shall say.

very sim to you,I have a gs460 for comfort,98 supra for sports car,f250 turbo for rolling off roadon beach and towing. You will get spoiled in the gs,it has mega comfort and good mpg, mine does around 27 mpg also.ITs sporty enough in sport mode to keep ya happy on the twisty roads, and fast enough to pass anything short of serious sports cars.. It needs no mods at all to look sleek other than 285 20s. I wouldnt touch the suspension or ride height, its just to plush and responsive to screw up. I would like to at some point cut off the silencer before the mufflers,to get a bit more motor tone out of the exhaust.Full exhaust replacements are a waste of money on this motor imho.

Congrats on the purchase! I've had mine for about 9 months now, bought it with 16k, and she's been great so far. No regrets on my purchase what so ever I hope to do something similar as you by buying something to hit the trails in, maybe a G500 or something. Anyways, Enjoy your new car

Congrats, I live 5 miles from Augusta. Did you buy your car from Jim Hudson Lexus?

Welcome, jbuffett! Quite a rare beauty you've picked up; post a few more pics!

There's a few other fellow GS460 owners floating around here, but not many.

Thanks! The only plans are window tint (how this car was in Georgia with no tint, I have no idea) and a clear bra. It's so perfect as-is for what I want to do with it.

The G500's are purpose-built for offroading but holy cow are they expensive. Offroading is a funny hobby, as capability goes up so does price, but at some point you end up with a vehicle so expensive you don't want to tear it up.

Check out Redline Land Cruiser's "FJ-UTE", it's an aluminum 4-door FJ40 body over an early 90's LandCruiser frame/drivetrain:

$49K, three lockers, FJ40 looks with a fuel-injected V8 up front. We've already had several of the Denver FJ folks jump ship to put their name on the list for these.

Yep, that's where I got it. Sales guy (Scott) was great to work with over the phone, even though I did beat him up about the price a good bit.
