Just wanted opinions ...I have an 07 gs350, cpo is over at the end of the year, I have 60k on it now... can add 2 yrs up to 100k for $1875 through the Lexus dealership. Thanks

Depends...first is this third party or Lexus? How has the car been as far as issues? If it is 3rd party, what's covered?

Extended warranties are basically insurance. I buy them because I tend to keep my cars at least 8 year and it has paid off for me in everyone vehicle I've purchased so far except of this one...lol

I have a 2008 with 62.5k and when I bought it new I opted for the 8yr/120 Lexus warranty for $1850. So far I've only had the trunk switch and rear struts replaced but I still have a lil over 2 yrs left on the warranty so maybe i'll break even on this one. Its a gamble...

Has the car been to the dealer for a lot of repairs? Are you planning on keeping for a long time?

It is the Lexus factory warranty. So far I have had the water pump, a head light assembly and a parking sensor replaced under CPO. I was considering selling the car but now I think I will keep it for at least 2-3 more years and that's why I'm thinking about the warranty. I haven't had any engine troubles and I maintain it really well.

I remember seeing what the headlight would have cost me out of pocket. Something like $1,100!

Yea that is a pricey item. Well It might be a good option.it just suck that you but the warranty then you sell the car or you never use it. Its mostly a hit or miss.

Way too expensive insurance for a vehicle that has very little future repair cost.......remember it's a Lexus.

Until something breaks...each person has to look at their financial situation...its a crap shot...this is not the same Lexus of old....more electronics...some will never have problems and some have expensive problems that pop up.

You are always going to get a mixture of responses but ultimately you have to look at the car...and you situation...

I hate paying for repairs...for me it's worth it just for piece of mind...

I'm not as worried about the engine and powertrain, just random expensive stuff. I remembered I also had the rear view mirror replaced under CPO as well as the plastic gears that adjust the power mirrors up and down. Those get expensive! I think I may do it because the warranty is also transferable if I sell the car

In my opinion, yes.

I was in the same position in February. I had 50k on her at the time, and decided to buy the 48 month/48k extended warranty for $2,475 from my dealership (haggled down from $2,700). 4 months later I had it in to repair an oil leak from the front engine cover, and had a defective steering wheel phone button replaced and glove box rattle fixed at the same time, all under the new warrranty. The cost if I didn't have the warranty? $2,972.15. Saved $500 already, with 42 months left.

Obviously ymmv, but all it takes is one significant repair, or a few minor ones, and it's worth it. Mine is also transferrable to a new owner, if and when I sell.

Well the headlight was not aligning properly. Gave it the hammer test in front of the SA and it was pretty obvious. The parking sensor just recently failed, it just kept beeping. I even tried to clean it wondering if it was maybe a bug or something, but the technician tested it and it failed. And when I had it in for recall work they noticed that the water pump was leaking so they replaced it under the CPO

CAK 500, yes I'm pretty sure if I add this coverage it is transferable so maybe even in a year I could sell it with a warranty on it, and that's another reason I'm considering adding it

Of course if you go the stealership way, those will cost you. However if you are even half handy with a hammer and a screwdriver, there are many DIY threads for a lot of problems that you could fix yourself for less than what you would pay a month in extended warranty.

for example, I had the mirror crap/black stuff and got it replaced for $100. It is really not that hard to take the rear view mirror down.


But if you like to pay for your oil changes instead of saving money in doing it yourself, by all means, go for the extended.

Me, I like the extra cash in my pocket.
