Found out the hard way yesterday that used keys cannot be reprogrammed for my 07 GS 350. I took my ride into the dealer with a used key fob after making sure the battery was new and the FCC Id matched my working key fob. Bob at the dealership told me it wouldn't work, but took me outside to witness the process as he attempted to program it. No dice, the car would not even recognize it. He said that once the new remote is introduced to the car, the security ECU and the key fob are programmed ad linked. Therefore, it can only be linked once. Multi-layer security he called it. Bull or not, i witnessed first hand that the crap didn't work.

i had the fob… he cut the inner blade key (with a new blade) to match my locks from my original and reprogrammed both my original fob and old GS300 fob to the computer of the car… all took about 30 min.

The dealer can reprogram it tries to sell you a new key gob. The ecu has up to six ok. -a. key fob slots. They have to go in and erase the old keys and reprogram ALL current keys at the same time. They would claim that if they screw up the ecu would have to be replaced.
