GS300 Transmission issue resolved
2006 GS300. 106k miles.
My transmission had 2 problems which were throwing 4 different codes. Problem 1 was a lag while increasing speed.. there were times when the car just wouldn't pick up speed no matter how much I accelerated. Second problem was that it would not shift beyond 3rd gear.
There were 4 codes thrown - p0261, p0251, p2715 and one more. I looked around found a Transmission specialist, really honest guy (Perform Transmission in Santa Clara, CA). He replaced Solenoid D ($750 for parts and labor) and that resolved some of the issues. The car still randomly doesn't go beyond 3rd gear and throws code p0261. Solenoid D has been enhanced by Lexus BTW. It's a different design which is probably because the previous design was bad.
Next step is for him to replace Solenoid C. Won't charge me for labor since he should have done that in the earlier service.
Lexus wanted me to change the Transmission on the car. I'm upset that the car has a Transmission issue.. it's a Lexus and I wouldn't expect this. Not sure I'm going to buy another Lexus because of how they handled this.

How is this issue "resolved" if it still does the same thing... and update please.
Also part numbers would help
Is solenoid D part 3524050050? ( S4) Controls shift 4 to 5 SL1 and back pressure
Is solenoid C # 3524050030 controls shifting 3 to 4 (S3)
Could the wire harness have anything to do with it? something about AC sitting on top of it or front end collision
OR ECU? ECM? TCM? or Calibration update or this might just be for slower gear updates

I have no answers as I am still digging in the issue. Was told today actually that the transmission fully will need replacing this is a headache 🤕

Because it shifts smooth sometimes. If you have a odbII reader you can clear the code while rolling/driving revving high on 3rd and it will shift out.
I used the ELM bluetooth with torquepro and a spare android phone.
I used my cheap obdii but sometimes it doesnt respond or once it got messed up due to a voltage jump or something. Screen was messed up has to toss it but it was $20 at walmart.
If you want to buy the elm devices. dont get the cheap blue ones every one i had of those didnt work but the big black old looking one worked. Im sure the higher end ones will work too
thanks man we are in this together. Please read my posts to see my findings im actually trying to fix it myself and have dropped my pan a few times. Im an average guy and if i can. I would hope you can too

I highly recommend it. You can get them on amazon for about 15$ then the torque app is like 5$ and you can just leave it connected to the OBDII.

I'll go out on a limb here and say this...
I believe the problem is a VSC problem and not a transmission problem. When VSC kicks in, and in your case.. there's a problem with its operation... your car will reluctantly upshift into higher gears to assist you in better traction and engine braking.
Under normal operation, when you accelerate hard and VSC kicks in, your transmission will hold lower gears as long as it can until it is convinced you are no longer on at WOT or potentially WOT again. The system tries to adapt to your driving and throttle prediction.
I hate this feature, but that's how they come.

Which I think the TCC for SL2 Torque Converter and it did not fix my issue. Just change it a little.
No more torque converter codes after solenoid.
But i still get stuck into 3 in safety mode.
Now im gonna change with a used transmission.
Please LMK what solenoids you change and if it fixed your issue. Mine was at about 150K
I also have a ES300 Original Engine Trans at 260K still going strong so this at $150K is unacceptable.

I ended up selling my car unfortunately. I tried a couple different repairs to try and fix this, talked to Lexus Corporate about this to get some help from them on the repair. All recommendations came back to just replacing the transmission which I did not want to do.
Having gone through that experience with Lexus Corporate and Lexus Stevens Creek, I would never buy a Lexus ever again.

I seem to have the same problem but with a 2nd gen GS300 but it`s just stuck in drive no matter what gear I put it in. I`ve tried replacing my transmission fluid but with no success. It started happening about a week ago when it would just loss power. I had a problem like that before where I just cleaned the MAF sensor but this time I replaced the air filter as well. Just want some clarification on what I should do as I really need it for transport.
