Default 2006 gs430 headlight issue(not a bulb)

HI Guys,

About 3 weeks ago i have noticed that the right headlight doesnt work. I assumed its the bulb and bought a set from kbcarstuff. Installed them today and it still doesnt work. I tried to swap the bulbs and non of them worked in the right headlight and all of them worked fine in the left one. I assumed it is a fuse and went to check it out(number 80 and 81 fuses, 15A are all sweet). Please advise what might be the issue? Is it the ballast or something also?

Bigfox: What do you guys use there? Is your bulb a halogen or HID?

it is a d4s HID bulb. stock 4300 never changed.new from kbcarstuff 5000k. All bulbs work on the left side and none of them on the right side.

I'm thinking its your ballast.

If you tried this or if you already did it. Put your bulb in the one side that works. Then put it to the right and see if it fires. If it doesn't fire try putting the same bulb back to the other side and see if it fires again. If it works, then im sure it's your ballast.

I thought I had a bad ballast. But it ended up popping the cheapo HID's on one side. why? I don't know and not to sure. I ended up buying a pair of Garax bulbs and now it's perfect.

goodluck!

How to determine that it is the ballast? No voltage at the end of the grey thing which connects to the bulb? Was thinking about checking with volt meter .

Whoa BigMan!
Those HID work on high voltages (the books says up to 20,000 volts). Please don't risk a voltage measurement with voltages like that.
I am going to make an assumption that the problem is with only your R & L HID lamps? My 2002 also has high beam lamps (and fuses) and DRL lamps (and fuses).
You have done the biggest part of troubleshooting. You determined that the left side is fine and the right fuse is ok. (Try swapping 80 and 81, just in case.) If nothing works in the right socket, then the only component remaining is the ballast. Try doing a search here to find the location of your ballasts. They will be near the lamp. Mine are under the headlamp assembly. Next, just swap them left to right to see if the problem follows. I am guessing it's the right hand ballast or its connector.

Yes I decided that might be not a good idea lol.Yesterday inspected again.Tried to clean, to blow and nothing. Looks like have to replace it.Got a price of 513 dollars for a ballast so need to buy it overseas. Plenty of chinese fake so if you know a good place where i can get a genuine ballast that would be great. I also had some problems taking off the bumber. I took off about 15 or so bolts and it didnt do anything, so i dont know how i am going to replace the ballast without taking the bumper off.
