Didn't want to bother with the bulbs, besides that's I heard that you have to change the ballast as well, is that true? Otherwise I may just change them.

No not really you don't need to change the ballast.
I would recommend you to buy Garax or philips if you want to change your HID

I currently have philips ultinon i paid $250 for them but I also had garax and they are lexus friendly bulbs no issues and just great bulbs, i bought the garax for $100 on eBay

Be careful when buying HID bulbs on ebay, there are a lot of fakes out there. I would go with a known vendor like kbcarstuff.

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/D4S-HID-Bulbs-s/9436.htm

Use code CLGB08 and get $20 off each DS4 Bulb. I bought a 6000k D4S XenonDepot HID Bulb and haven't had any problems.
