Default 08 gs460 black smoke

Hello all,

So I have had the car for about 6 months and on occasion I have noticed faint black smoke at start up. It usually goes away after the initial start up.

The car did get the recall or TSB on the engine valve ring issue? Not sure if that's related or not.

Also it has an aftermarket cat back Tanabe exhaust if that's relevant.

Is this something I should be worried about or have the dealer look into this?

Thank you.

Are you sure its black smoke or a light gray smoke. If it is black I would get that checked if not and its a light gray smoke that is normal on start-up.

I would do a top engine clean with say sea foam or the dealer and maybe replace the spark plugs if you havent already.

It's not NORMAL, I don't think.... but it's not uncommon on modified exhaust systems.

It's not normal, and NO it's not from your axle back exhaust either. Have it checked.

Glad you clarified it lol..... I didn't know if it was common on LEXUS modified exhausts.... It was on my other modified vehicles... They were modded with turbochargers, and the fuel/air ratios were fiddled with, hence the smoke on THOSE vehicles.

If it had the ALE recall done, which was replacement of valve springs, there is a possibility a valve seal is either leaking or torn if someone wasn't careful during the recall...

If your car doesn't consume any oil, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks guys I will have it checked out on my next oil change the car only has 45k miles so I don't think it needs plugs yet?

The car runs fine and no other issues. Decent gas mileage as well. Mid 20's

No hesitation from the engine or rough idle. I have checked the oil and it's full as well. It's had about 3k miles from the last oil change.

I hope it's not something big I truly love this car and dont want to have it broke down already..
