took the car in for a recall today...found a BIG SURPRISE..
So I took my car in for the valve spring recall today, early in the morning with the hopes that I'd get it back by the end of the day..had the shuttle drop me off at home only to receive a call from service saying they found some MAJOR PROBLEMS.
A buddy of mine used to own a car stereo shop before he moved to Vegas. Had him hook me up with a DLS sub + amp + Shuriken battery. Turns out whoever pieced and installed everything (wasn't him) did a pretty **** poor job at it..anyway, getting back to the service call..apparently they said the battery was actually too big for the car and when it was put in, it bent one of the fuel lines..while causing another to rub up against the engine..basically they were on the verge of snapping..the techs at Lexus didn't even want to touch anything without replacing the necessary parts (stock battery, fuel lines, brackets, etc.)...which of course just my luck came out to almost $800!!
Needless to say I was fkn PISSED!! After all, I'd been running this setup for almost 2 YEARS!! In all that time, I was in a potential death trap just waiting to catch on fire!! I mean I know my boy would never screw me over but at the same time I know how busy his shop was all the time..he probably had a new hire that didn't know squat about what he was doing working on my car..to make matter worse, they have to order the parts...which probably won't come in till friday...if I'm lucky...and of course I never am..hopefully I can get a loner by the weekend..in any case, I'm just glad and lucky they caught the problem when they did. Ever since the install, I never had any reason to even pop the battery out and check for stuff..
I just wanted to write this post to share my experience with all of you- in the hopes that my negative experience can be something to learn from. No matter what type of work you get done to your car, always ALWAYS double check everything..or else you may find some super nasty surprises that'll break your wallet..I sure learned my lesson..

Glad you caught it....
FWIW, shuriken batteries aren't all they're cracked up to be... They're budget batteries that don't perform even close to as well as they're "claimed" to be. Tested and proven by the big boy audio guys.

Sounds overly dramatic to me. How much bigger was the battery? Looking at mine with the stock battery there is a good 3-3.5" between the return fuel line. I really don't see how it was that big of an emergency, but they did end up convincing you to spend an extra $800 on top of the recall work they're already making a killing on so good for them....
