Spark plugs
My 09 GS 460 just had the 60,000 mile service which included replacing the spark plugs. However my wife's 05 LS 430 does not call for this service until it reaches 120,000. Any thoughts on why there is such a difference in the two engines?
Thanks,
Tex

I believe the GS460 is not a DI engine.
The GS460 is a 1UR-FE (if it were DI, it would be 1UR-FSE).
I'd say they told you the specific interval of 60k because it's suggested also. Long-Life spark plugs can go to 100k, so I'm unsure why they claim 120k for the LS430.... I lack a bit of knowledge in that category. But this is essentially the style spark plug you are using:

My guess would be that it's suggested to sustain the higher mpg's in your car.... Just consider that the more you keep up with your car (for the most part) the longer you get to keep it out of the shop.
Hope this helps, GL!

The GS 460 is a 1UR-FSE, I don't understand why people keep saying it is not.
I have a 2008 GS 460. 2008 calls for 120K replacement. I just did mine two weeks ago at 108K. I believe they probably would have gone to 120 without misfire codes. The plugs looked great, however, they were about as worn as worn can be, I can show you pictures if interested. My commute is pretty standard including traffic patterns. I have been through about 2 tanks worth of gas and my tank avg is now in the high 23's. Before the plugs were replaced I would have been in the low 21's.
I think they changed the interval to 60K after 2008 to prevent loosing those 2 MPG at the end of the replacement interval, probably for "emissons reasons". The two MPG is non-trivial over so many tanks so it makes sense to replace them in that 60K - 75K range I'd say and you will pay for the service by not pushing it.
Also, it took me about 3 hours to replace them.

Yes that's correct the GS 2007-14 are all intervals of 60K which is correct as I changed my 3GS around 61K and they were looking tired. The older GS like 1998-2004 or older all had interval of 120K so couldn't really explain it but they were correct to change them at that interval. Although In didn't go in to service I had them done by a friend it was worth it felt a little better.

This will probably make you laugh, but, I'd suggest washing the engine bay a bit before you begin. So much stuff gets moved around to access the plugs that its better to not make your clothing absorb all of the dirt.
As far as the plugs are concerned:
1) Were they hard to get out after 100K? No
2) When I installed them did I use anti-seize? No, nor did I feel it needed.
3) Denso plugs again? Yes, the last plugs made it to 108K with no issues, don't mess with success I say.
BTW, with the 8 speed transmision, I got a few hard shifts around 70K in stop/go traffic. I've owned it since 18K. No concerns at any other time. I drain/fill, ran around block a few times, drain/fill again (you get about 2.5 qt each drain). Cleared the hard shifts up completely. GS 460/LS 460 people would be interested in that. Love that tranny.
