Default 2006 AWD exhaust system

Correction. it is a 2008, My system is starting to leak because of the wonderful heat shields. Monro muffler has given me a price of $2,700 and Lexus is over $3,100. I find this unreasonable. Any suggestions?

without photos, we don't know.

Have you visited the cheap muffler shops local to you outside of Monro?

If it's the same problem as mine, and it sounds like it, I had both sides midpipes replaced with stainless steel that was custom bent on site for $400. Sounds like you're being quoted replacement instead of repair.

Yep it was for replacement system. I am going to two other shops today to see if they will repair. I have 170k on the car. The problem is where the heat shields are located.

Yes that's where mine rusted through on one side... the heat shields are gone now and both sides in that area after the cat where the rear O2 sensors are are stainless. Probably my price was on the higher side compared to what you could find... being as how everything costs more in Canada and i went to one of the "better" places in the city.

Mine rusted too in that area. It just gave me a reason to straight pipe that area and remove the heat shields..

Cost all but 100 bucks since they kept the two resonators. Welds weren't spectacular, but they'll hold up better than the clamped area before..

Problem solved. I found a local muffler shop to stainless steel sleeve the problem area.

Was it a mom/pop specialty type shop?

I had this same problem at 40k miles shortly after buying the car from a private seller. Apparently this is extremely common on both GS and IS models. I did the same fix as "BinaryJay", but it only ran me $150 all said and done.

It's outrageous what Lexus was charging to replace that section because it includes the catalytic converters.

That section doesn't include cats. It is all after a flange downstream of the cats. The crazy price is nothing but crappy rust prone pipe.
