Screeching brakes on 08 GS
Sup every1. I'm having issues with very loud screeching noises on my 08 awd. Sounds like a garbage truck. Lexus said its $625 to replace brake pads and rotors to stop the noise. I'm not really a fan of DIY so is that a fair price for the parts and labor or should I bring it somewhere else? Thanks in advance.

I shelled out ~240ish for rotors+pads (fronts). This was waaay back when it was hard finding anything on the car.
Make sure you get the right pads and rotors, as there's sets that are prone to the screeching and there's sets not prone to screeching.
I forgot which one so you may have to do a wild search on it.

A set of OEM brake pads can be had ~$70, Decent aftermarket rotors are ~$120, so $200 for parts. Changing brakes is actually extremely easy (once you take off the wheel it is really just a couple of bolts for the pads and some screws for the rotor. You do need a c-clamp or something to compress the cylinder back.. So no... In short, I think anyone paying $625 for a brake job is insane. I suggest you buy the parts yourself and have some local mechanic to do it for $60 labor (it shouldn't take more than 20-30 minutes for someone with a lift and tools.

I just had my brakes redone here at the Louisville Lexus dealership.
Had same problem as you.
Took it back and told them this squeaking was unacceptable.
They replaced the shim kit at N/C......apparently there is a faulty shim kit and dealerships are aware of it.
No more screeching.

My GS 350 does the same screeching too, but I'm sorta new to this whole car thing. a year or 2 ago (dont bash me please) I got duralast performance brake pads for the GS 350. everytime its cold it would screech, after one or two braking moments it stops. Then it comes again randomly even after driving a few miles. Also there isa problem with my brakes where they push all the way down. rear are just fine i say about a year before they go fronts still look healthy! all I didnt do was probably flush brake fluid even tho its been about 30k miles after the warranty was done, they probably never flushed the brake fluids. Or do you believe its an even bigger problem?!?
Some poeple say it could be the master cylinder or the brake line could have a leak, but the brake fluid leve is the same!

I had this screeching brake problem on my 07 GS350. Before consulting with Club Lexus, dumb ***, I bought new rotors and pads for Sewell(great prices). As soon as I pulled off from the shop I got to put them at, guess what? Yep, screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech! So I got on the forum and saw I wasnt by myself. Someone reccommended Centric Posiquiet ceramic pads. I got a pair on Amazon for $38. Went to the same shop and got the pads switched out. Guess what? Yep, no more screeching! The Posiquiets shim plate is built into the pad. I dont know if that's what solved the issue or not but they are quiet. I feel much better about driving my GS now that the brakes dont screech!

See if this helps re shim kit........invoice shows # 04945 - 22152 Shim Kit, Anti Squ
No charge since lexus knows the original shim kit that was just put on was defective.

Shim kit #04945-22152 was replaced by 04945-30330 under TSB # L-SB-0011-11. The TSB recommends changing pads, rotors, and shim kit but I wonder if the shim kit is all thats really needed.
