Default what exactly is cluster mode?

Now that I've got my owner's manual, I've read about the cluster mode, like it changes tint or shade on the instrument cluster glass.....or something like that. I've tried pushing the mode button in my car and the display reading shows it changes from Auto-Lo, Auto-Hi, Manual 1, and so on. However, I don't see any difference......like nothing's happening. I brought the car over to the dealer for some other stuff and asked them to check on it. Report states "no problem found" meaning it's working normally. I still don't see anything working when I tested the car last night.

So, what exactly is this?

The lense on yout instrument gauges are varible tinted, there is a light sensor on your back window to adjust the amount of blue tint on your gauge's lense. Those setting you just mention adjust the amount of tint. Athough it is hardly noticable when you switch from low to high. Just another toy Lexus decided to put into the GS, most other cars just dims the gauge.

Kinda weird to have that feature when the car already have the gauge dimming switch as well as adjustments to it. But thanks for the clarification.

actually, its purpose is to reduce glare on the gauges during the day to make the gauge easier to read with sun in the back

An anti-glare coating would be much easier and cheaper, also a lot more maintenance friendly.

You most likely won't see a difference at night. Bring it out on a sunny day, you will see the color changes when sunlight comes in from the driver side window. However, I've used it less than a handfull times in 2 years...

I understand what the function does, but what does Auto-Hi mean as opposed to Auto-Lo. What is Manual? Auto-Normal? Etc.

Can someone please expound?

Thats exactly what it means, auto high means it reacts to the rear light sensor with higher sensitivity and auto low with lower sensivitity. Manual high and low is dark or not so dark with no reaction to the light sensor.

Yeah, when I am driving home from work, the sun is always directly behind me so my gauges are a nice blue color.

No wonder my gauges were kinda bluish in tint when I was driving during daytime a while ago. First time I noticed it and before reading all the posts above.
