incorrect. a 5 year old will be in a car seat, which means head room can be an issue (can get pretty close) and sometimes make installation harder. leg / knee room is important as well because of the raised car seat, which takes up more room too
and give all the better dimensions in the 2gs, it simply has more rooms for kid and dog. my daughter at 1 yr old already didn't like the space in the 3gs

So basically, he should just buy another 2GS.

I got a car seat for a 3.5 yr old and a booster seat for a 6 yr old... headroom is not the problem, neither is door to door room. the concern is is largely legroom, especially for the car seat which moves forward from the backrest of the regular seat quite significantly. Either way kids don't complain and like being in the car and it's been a while since my 6yr old fell asleep in the car since going somewhere so I take it they are comffy

I have a rear facing seat in the middle of mine and its definitely not what I would call "roomy" and since a normal sized stroller doesn't fit in the trunk entrance I wouldn't call that roomy either. I still prefer the GS over our SUV.

i am sure everyone is different, but with the 3gs, the way the rear door opening is designed, it makes it harder to get in and out (lifting babies). it has to do with the l-finesse design overall and it's a compromise

the 5 year old is in a booster seat currently.
Looking like I need to just wait and aim for an SUV or truck after all. Who knows, I just need to hit the lottery and then I'll be all set! haha

Oh how I wish. Unfortunately not at all practical for a few resons.
1.) I'm in New England. LS AWD = $$$$, RWD is a complete no go. Being in IT, I have to be able to get anywhere I need to go all year long.
2.) I'm pretty buried in my ES in terms of negative equity. There are only certain deals that even make sense to consider, and I definitely could not find an LS to fit that bill.
