2006 Lexus GS 430 - What's it worth?
Hey guys,
Just did the timing belt and water pump. It has 98k miles on it, and the private party book is $19,500. I have had it on CL for a couple of weeks and dropped it to $16,500, and have had a couple of flakes and a couple of low ball offers, but no one real.
Am I missing something? Are they just not worth that much? I have been shocked at some of the dealer offers I've gotten ($13,500 from Carmax, ugh).
Looking to move up to an IS-F. Should I just trade it in?

Well, it depends on your car, (What options its had, its condition, color). No way anyone on here can give you a number base on NO Info. But My quick guess, If Car max is willing to give you $13,500. Its a pretty decent offer considering we don't know any details of the car.

True. Sorry. It's in perfect condition, exterior and interior is 9.9 out of 10. Never been wrecked according to carfax. Has all options, including mark levinson stereo, sunroof, adaptive lighting, in fact I don't know of an option that it doesn't have. I added an ipod adapter that plays, and controls through the touch screen, and I just spent $2500 on brakes, timing belt, water pump, and front seal at Lexus of Austin. All maintenance was performed at a Lexus Dealer from when it was new.
Color is silver metallic, and black interior.
The other dealer offers were in the 15's.
I can't think of anything else.

According to my calculations, (I use to do this professionally, Buy cars for dealers). With a Medium option GS430 with Nav, ML, etc.. You're looking at $13,400 Trade. $15,200 Private Sale. Retail is $17,400 (what dealers would list them for.. I say If you're car is every bit as "Clean" as you say. I would try to get atleast $15K from anyone, doesn't matter if you want to trade or sell to an individual. Remember dealers are having a hard time buying Clean used Cars. I say you have the upper hand when you're talking to a dealer. Not many people these days have $15K or can get a used loan for $15K its difficult. I say, If you want another Lexus, Trade up and with bargaining, the deal You could get $15K if not not very close to that.. (my .02 cents)

Yeah, I'm fine with that. I was just trying to get a bit more by selling it first. I thought it would have sold quick at $16,500, but it hasn't, and I thought maybe someone knew why.

I'm in Austin. I had all the work done of Lexus at Austin. And it's been at Lexus dealerships for all it's maintenance.
Do you think I can get more in a private party sale or trading it in? I own it outright.

Also, the car that I'm looking at is a 2008 IS-F with 71k miles. Silver and black. The guy will take $25k. I think it's a really good deal, but that obviously means I need to sell my car first, and fast.

The Answer is always Private Sale if you want more. But If you're in a hurry and/or the dealer has the car you want. I would trade because you can ask more off on their car to offset your trade. Either way is your choice but depending on the situation. I just don't see them giving you more than $15K so you have to decide is waiting a few more months worth getting an extra $1000 or not..

This is a Lexus comparable to yours in miles but condition may or may not be has good as yours - price by a lexus dealer (for comparison) so you can see what you're up against.. -- http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1

Markup on lexus are a bit tough! If you go to trade it in, they will give you 11,5-$12,5 unless they play with the numbers on the car you want to purchase.
If you traded the car in youll save money on taxes.
For you to sell it on the market right now, I would price it at 14,499.00 But expect to be talked down to $13,5-$14

Wow. I'm really surprised that the KBB numbers are so far off. I would have guessed that they might be a grand or so off, but not several grand.
I thought Lexus held their value really well, and was one of the reasons I bought one.

ibidu1, I've already gotten wholesale, meaning cash, offers at 13,500 from carmax, and at 15,400 from a Ford dealership and 15,250 from another wholesale buyer. I don't see how they would give me less than that at trade in.
I can't see that they would offer me in the $15's for wholesale if it was only worth 16-17 at retail. I could be wrong. My brother, who is a dealer, checked the Mannheim auctions, and they have been selling in the high 14's to 16's at auction, which explains the two wholesale offers. Carmax prices their wholesale offers low enough so that they can still sell the car at auction, and make money.
I thought maybe all the toyota recalls had hurt the market or something, or maybe I just need to find the right buyer. At 16,500 on auto trader it's the lowest priced vehicle in the country.
