Buying a CPO GS350?? Input, please!
Hi, I am the current owner of a 99 LS400. I still love the car but because the mileage is getting up there (150K) my husband is encouraging me to look at a newer car. I am a big fan of the CPO program--my car was purchased when it was 2 years old--and it's been very good to me. I don't want another LS, a little too big now that I'm not taxiing kids, and I would like a bit of a sportier feel. I am looking at the GS350 (considered the IS but the 250 feels a bit underpowered to me, and there are NO 350s out there). Anyway, I liked the 08 I test-drove recently but I think the dealer was asking too much ($29K, with 60K miles). They were absolutely unwilling to budge at all on the price, even though the car has been on their lot for nearly two months. Am I being unrealistic? We are a Lexus family and both other times we purchased our CPOs there was wiggle room on the price AND the extended warranty, but we used other dealers. Any input is welcome. Am I crazy to think that's a big high? If we can't make the deal I'll just keep driving my LS for a while. It's still a great car and my ASE Master Mechanic brother tells me it'll run forever. Thank you!

Thanks, all. I decided the price was indeed too high. I gave them my bottom-line offer and told them I wouldn't be trading in my car but just giving them a cash down, and I never heard from them again. Personally I am rather appalled that they didn't even come back with "sorry we can't make the deal, please keep us in mind for the future." Which of course I won't. And the car is STILL in their inventory, three weeks later. It has been on their lot for almost three months. But whatever. I am going to keep my LS for a while. I'm going to have it gone over with a fine-tooth comb to see what needs attention and go from there, but it's an awesome workhorse and is still smoother and quieter than most new cars on the road! I'm just going to bank those would-have-been car payments and when I'm ready for new I'll have an even bigger down. I feel good about this decision, too. Thank you all for your input!

Amen! Funnily enough, after I told them I wouldn't pay that much, they raised the price to $28,995. This week they dropped it to $27,995. The best they would offer me was $28,500. Guess they didn't want to sell me that car.

[QUOTE=SoFlaGS350;8018819]AZGirl, I recently bought a CPO GS350 and have a question on your sentence above since you bought a couple of CPO's before. When you say 'the extended warranty,' do you mean the CPO certification 3 yr/100k mile warrant, or another of the Lexus (or aftermarket) extended warranties?
Hi, Nelson. When we bought my hubby's RX it had almost 60K miles on it, and the standard extended warranty only covered it up to 3 yrs/100K. For $1700 we bought and extended-extended warranty that covers the car up to 5 yrs/125K. When I bought my LS back in 2001, the standard extended warranty was five yrs/100K, which they have reduced since then. Hope this helps!
