Window tint question-
I'm getting my GS tinted this saturday. Wondering about the "gauge brightness sensor" under the 3rd brakelight.... should I have them cut out the tint around that? What would the gauges look like if the whole back glass was tinted?
Guessing the sensor would always think it was darker than it actually is, and the gauges would be dimmed more??
I'm planning on going limo dark on the back glass (5%).
Thanks!

Not sure about 5% but mine are 35% all the way around and haven't had a problem. And I have a buddy who has his at 20% all the way around and he never said anything about his having a problem. If your gonna do it I would just tint the whole window I wouldn't cut around that section.

Don`t cut that section. I have mine at 5% and the sensor still works but it will be a little less responsive.
Btw, that sensor doesn`t affect the dimming of the gauges. ( the light sensor will do that, and it`s located in the front of the vehicle, not in the back ). The sensor in the 3rd brake light it`s called ECD.
In bright, sunny conditions, the ECD prevents reflections and glare from impeding your view of the instrument panel. Sensors monitor light levels. When they detect strong sunlight, the electro chromatic glass on the instrument panel automatically becomes less transparent, which eliminates any glare or reflection ( it turns the glass bluish ).

The back glass is 5% (limo), the rear doors are 20% ("privacy") and the front doors are 35%, which is the legal limit in Missouri for front glass. I almost had them do 20% on the front doors, too, but I just know once I get 19s or 20s on the car I'd be asking to get harassed by cops thinking I'm a teenager LOL
I always do 20% on the front glass of SUVs and the Sienna we had - cops totally leave Family Trucksters alone around here.
The tint cost $200 and carries a lifetime guarantee against fading/peeling/bubbling/etc. Here's another pic but remember this was just done at Noon today....it needs a couple days in the sun to "cure" and any little bubbles or cloudiness will go away.
PS - the GS is filthy in these pics, drove in some storms a couple days ago and haven't had a chance to wash it.
