Walnut/Media blasting for intake manifold
Hey,
Does anyone know of any shops in the NY/NJ/PA/CT area that does walnut or media blasting on intake manifolds? My GS350 is at 106k and could definitely use a good intake cleaning.
Thanks,
Chris

The gs350 isn't direct injection like the gs300, so they do not have the carbon build up issue. I think the walnut clean is a bit too much. I think you would be fine with a regular BG induction cleaning from the dealer.
I believe MINI dealers do the walnut cleaning call them and see if they will do it, or know someone in the area that will.

I havent performed any cleaning or maintenance on the intake manifold since I've had the car. And since I'd like to have this car for at least another 100k miles i'd like to perform the maintenance now and avoid any future problems.
I've always premium top-tiered gas so i dont know how much carbon deposits have accumulated. I've heard that Lexus designed the GS350 engine with one injector that acts as a "cleaner," burning off deposits in the IM.
I'm not really aware of any cleaning schedule for the IM. I guess my only other concern with using a system like BG Induction cleaning is that deposits will then just get moved down lower into the engine and will cause damage there.
Also, is it necessary to change the spark plugs or PCV valve after using a cleaning system like BG?
Anyone have any experiences with this?
Thanks,
Chris

BG is good or you can even do it on your own and save money. Seafoam sells a special spray that mounts to the intake boot, so its like the BG, but not a ton of chemicals, because I believe BG uses 2 cans to do a full cleaning.
I wouldn't worry about carbon chipping off and falling into other parts. Because what these fuel based cleaners they melt top layer of the carbon and it burns off into a black cloud out of the tailpipe.
