benbuilt4u, my hats off to you for pulling this off. I must admit, I am quite savvy when it comes to this sort of stuff but in this case, the cost to benefit just does not make sense for me. Lots of work for not lots of improvement but of course that is my opinion. It almost makes more sense to sell the 06 and buy an 07 or 08 but of course not may be less reasonable too

idk.....from reading over Ben's post about his swap, doesnt seem like all that much work. Get the 5th generation nav, pretty which is much plug n play. Buying the wiring harness is the biggest pain. I believe this would be fairly easily job for someone who knows what they are doing...am I wrong?

Ben, once I have the new navigation unit I know it will fit in the same spot with no modification. Can you link me to somewhere that show what I connection I have to do?

Thanks

thanks, for me 06 gs430 was only reasonable choice. 07 gs430 very hard to find and im a mechanic so I'd NEVER buy a v6 piece of crap and the 460 is still overpriced.

it is easy IMO but i find other's struggle with tasks i always see easy. so id say average person this is extremely difficult. If you fall into the top 2% of people you my freind will also find it easy as i do.

there is no link i used alldata wiring diagrams my extensive knowledge of electrical systems and patience and it works flawless day in and day out. for the 07 though it will be pretty much plug and play so no real wiring involved

gotcha! Well I am def not in the 2 percent. However im curious if I have all the parts and supplied them to a shop that specializes in audio that they would be able to pull off this feat!

lol certainly not pnp.

for the little benefits you get imo you would be better off just using an aux input with a in/out app that you can have everything show on your screen.

LOL It was easier than getting an S54 to work in an E30

It's not hard per se, just a lot of annoying time consuming work.... ripping basically whole interior out, etc..

Now, wonder if it's possible to retrofit ML to a Non-ML car. Not that I am doing it as I am going to sell my car but I wonder how big a swap that would be?

anything is possible but with the money you would spend for the ML stuff, you could probably upgrade to better speakers for cheaper

having the factory nav with gen5 screen clarity and interface trumps any aux port. plus i have pandora and ipod control on my head unit.

ML is great if you got it free. but if you have to pay for it almost any aftermarket stereo properly installed is much better.

i was seriously contemplating doing this conversion but i think i'm going to just replace the HU with an ipod mini and then relocate the HU to the center console so i can still have HVAC controls.
