Default worn upholstry on drivers seat

Hi All, I just bought a 08 gs350 CPO and think the car is great. Has anyone had to replace the seat back upholstry? It was repaired before the sale, but the area is starting to wear out and the painted area is starting to peel. I was thinking to taking it to a local upholstry shop and getting an estimate for a panel replacement. It is the area at the drivers seat left side lumbar area. Thanks in advance...Don

FWIW... After 16 months of ownership (and 9,000 miles), my driver's side left back bolster (and to a lesser extend the left side hip area) started wearing prematurely (a few cracks). Brought it to the dealer and they said there's nothing they can do (wear and tear). Went to another dealer and got the same speech but they had the courtesy to take pictures of it and send it to a district manager to provide an 'official' response. I got a call a few days later that Lexus was going to replace the entire driver's seat. Two weeks later I was a happy camper.

THAT...is customer service.

On a side note, I haven't read much on-line about the leather wearing prematurely. Taking into account people's weight, how they sit in the seat, how the leather was installed, etc.....I would still think some have had premature wear.

The area had already been repaired by a leather repair person. So I don't think a picture would show anything. The repair is starting to peel. It was suppose to have been repaired by one of the better repair guys. He did have to repair a repaired area, so maybe the first repair was no good and didn't hold up. But I was wondering if anyone else had similar problem and if there was an easy fix... Does anyone know the name of the part that covers the lumbar bolster on the left side of the seat?

You can take it to an upholstery shop and they can cut out the leather section and stitch a new one. 150-$250 it usually costs to repair a job like that.

Lol, ok.

I suppose the people that work on these types of repairs do so with blind folds on...

Yup! It did look good for a month.....

I will try an upholstry shop. Thanks for all your input. I didn't think the upholstry shop would be that cheap. I didn't think they could just replace one panel. I hope it matches...

Thank you for your input. I didn't know of this type of repair. I wonder in SF Bay area is the same price as your area?

I have an 08 and an 01, the 01 seats are in great shape and I notice that the leather on the 08 drivers side is starting to wear at 30K. I will say the 08 leather is softer so more care seems to be called for.

you are probably right, I think the later models had the ventilated seats for cooling or heating the bottom....
