Wait!!!
so both my sister and i both have a 06 gs300 and her car is doing the same thing. So i called over to south county lexus and spoke with Doug my service writter, and he said that they recently released an extended warranty for some O-ring on the pistons for this car. i think he called it a Rough Ride recall, but he said that very well can be the issue causing that. its something to look into. im leaving to take my sisters car in about 15 min. ill post up results when i get them ::fingers crossed::

I have the exact same problem you are having with my 2006 GS 300 RWD. It wont **** passed 4 or 5th gear. I have 100,000 miles. My dealer attempted to get fixed for me for free but the manager declined because he said my car hasn't received regular maintenance at Lexus. Now im just stuck as I don't have $4000 to get it repaired.

Bypass the dealer, and speak to Lexus CS directly.
It's bollocks that the car hasn't seen the dealership's service bay as having anything to do with the transmission going south - it's a lifetime fluid, and barring any loss of fluid from leaking gasket around the pan, that puts that stupid comment in its place.
Are we to presume you've had the car serviced elsewhere regularly, etc?
If Lexus won't play ball, then source a replacement pre-owned unit, and it'll cost a lot less than $4K.
Alternatively find a good transmission specialist, and see what they have to say.

i noticed i have the same problem bec i was burning oil due to high rpm
Hello and thanks for this post.
I'm having a very similar problem.
Only goes into 1-3 and won't go into 4-6 without reving up to 4000 rpms and then it goes into gear.
Codes are P0751 "D Solenoid" and P0761 "C Solenoid"
Can I just replace these 2 solenoid's since these are the only 2 which are messed up?

I also had the same issue with my 06 gs300. Initially, i felt like my car was sometimes in the wrong gear when driving on the freeway but it went from intermittent to worse in a matter of a week.
One day it got stuck in 4th gear when driving on the freeway and i knew i was in for a big overhall. I also took it to Tustin Lexus and they diagnosed it with a blown transmission. Seriously, i've had this CPO for 3 years and it blew my mind that I had to replace the tranny with less than 130k miles.
Needless to say, I was disappointed when I was quoted 5k to get it replaced. Luckily, i decided to call Lexus corporate and they were able to help out with the cost of repair. They paid for 1/2 the parts which was close to 2k. Went from 5k to 3,300. Sure I got screwed in having to replace a relatively young tranny by toyota standards, but at least Lexus stepped up and helped out when they didnt have to. I'm sure that I'm lexus for life at this point.
But as far as the tranny, i think there has to be some design flaw. From what I've read the 2006 has the 2005 tranny in it which is a completely different from what they went with in the 2007 model. I'm only hoping that I can get more life out of this rebuilt replacement than 130k miles. After what I spent, I'm sure I'll be in my GS for a couple more years.

All the 06+ GS 300/350 have the same transmission...and it would be more durable without this WS lifetime fluid crap...

Yea I had the same problem!
I bought an 06 GS300 RWD back in Feb '12 with 60k miles. Car has so much comfort and features and with all black interior, it can't go wrong. Not until couple weeks ago when it started to throw Engine Light and Check VSC notification on the display. Reset the battery twice in the last 2 months, and yesterday it threw the same symptom but this time transmission also acting up. It won't shift beyond 4th or 5th gear, rpm stays at 4500 rpm even when I go 60 mph. Engine is whining like it won't go to the next gear.
I decided to bring it in to Tustin Lexus to have it diagnosed ($146) and couple hours later according to the service manager, transmission will need to be replaced, WHAT??? It is only 66k miles and it is an 06 and I would need to replace the transmission already? This is worse than my beat up 00 Mitsu Galant that I had for couple years, never had any problem with that car whatsoever. The worst thing is the drivetrain warranty expired in Jan '12. even it is less thatn 70k miles, doesn't really matter to them.
So I called couple places including Corner 3 Garage in Lake Forest (SoCal peeps should know this place) and they recommended me to call Lexus Corporate (in Torrance, CA) and fight for the warranty since it is pretty low on miles and the warranty was only couple months passed. I did that soon as I hung up with Corner 3, it's a very good advice btw. Talked to Customer Satisfaction personnel at the Corporate and explained everything. The person I talked to has passed all my info to their Dept Specialist, he said they will review and make a decision whether they will give me some sort of assistance.
I should hear something back in these 1-2 days, meanwhile, the Service Manager at Tustin Lexus is kind enough to let me keep the loaner (CT200H) until we hear something back from their Corporate.
My question is:
Anyone else had experience the same thing? I did my research and there is not too many out there regarding transmission on the 06 GS300 RWD. Try to see if there is any other alternatives other than replacing the transmission. I called around and price to have the transmission REBUILT is around $4k with 3-4 days turn around, outrageous. I would just park my car in the garage if I ever need to go that route, maybe build a manual trans in the future when I have enough fund.
Please advice!!

*MAYBE*
I have a 2006 GS430 - issues with light jerking when decelerating to 15mph. HEAVY jerking at 5mph.
No engine codes. Everyone telling me to get a new tranny.
Bought a used JDM tranny on ebay. 41,000 miles on it, and the seller guarantees it was a working part. Mechanic shop tells me after they swapped it: SAME ISSUES.
Same exact issues on 2 different transmissions???
Reading around, and I'm seeing it could be ECM needing to be reflashed or replaced.
http://repairpal.com/poor-shift-qual...low-speeds-550
As a Technician of Lexus for 5 years I too drive a 2005 LS430, in my career as a lexus technician i have never seen a LS or SC 430 transmission replaced nor have my co-workers. I Too had a Downshift Drivability conrshdithin where when the vehicle downshifted from 3rd into second it would be a little (harsh) but when it downshifted from 2nd into 1st it would be very hard almost stopping the car. i know every TISB for this car and there is one for a ECM re-flash for (Poor Shift Quality at Low Speeds) i first verified my ECM was fully up to date. Thinking It could ONLY be the transmission I installed a factory new transmission before even leaving the parking lot i noticed it was still there consistently on the 3rd to 2nd and even more noticeable on the 2nd to 1st downshift. knowing just how well tested the the factory transmissions come i knew the problem had to be the ECM. replaced the ECM and Fixed the Hard shifting. keep in mind there is no real way to diagnose the ECM is bad especially with no (codes) or anything to start from in most cases all you can do is have the transmission fluid checked (most likely very dirty because is a sealed transmission with World Standard Fluid) all you can do is gamble a $1500 ECM or a $3000 transmission. Next time i will put my money on the ECM cause these transmissions really are bullet proof.
