i guess there is some political factors of owning a high end luxury vehicle like the mercedes :P
i live in Los Angeles county and socal is flooded with S classes left and right. On the way to work every morning i see 6+ S550s consistently. Although being a 26 year old - i could see the WOW factor definetely coming into play. I eat in most of the time during lunch so hopefully my director never sees me pulling up because when it comes time for a raise - i don't think hes gonna feel i need the money that bad lol..
anyway, im still stuck between the S and CLS55 - i guess what it comes down to now is the EPA and cost of ownership between both.
Exterior wise: CLS55 hands down
Interior wise: S550 hands down
Cost of ownership: ???

i say don't worry much on the cost of ownership. drive train both cars are very strong. electronic stuff you probably want to try get extended warranty if possible. unless you are handy, then you can likely find cheap replacement parts on ebay and spend afternoons in the garage

for non car enthusiasts who have no idea on value, a s class will always get the shock/baller status especially if your under 30.
the s class is where most average people call it the end of the road in terms of climbing the status ladder of sedan, the next step up is a leap!
bentley flying spur or i guess even a maserati quad!
to be honest, im starting to get tired of sedans though... i had a 2GS now a 3GS and i think my next vehicle will be a coupe. I really like the CL, but the price is out of range...... and the bmw's dont really do it for me unless a 6 series which is also out of range.

As much as I like the S class and a used one is somewhat affordable(to buy, to maintain might be another story), I can never own it without the feeling of being viewed as a rich and snobby bastard. For this reason, I haven't considered a used S class no matter how affordable it might be. Maybe in my 50s but not in my 20s.

If you plan to put 35k a year on the car I suggest that you stay far away from the s-class. No disrespect Lexus
Doesnt compare to BMW or Mercedes in performance, but kills the both in reliability.
