Default Some Gasoline Brands Give You Lower MPG

I usually use 91 Octane Shell in my GS 430, but recently when nearly empty I used 91 Octane Chevron. That was a big mistake!! My MPG with Shell has been between 26 - 27 MPG @ 80 MPH, but with 91 Octane Chevron it was barely 23 MPG. It occurred to me that the culprit might be the additive Ethanol. Did some research and sure enough Chevron uses up to 10% ethanol in their gas. Ethanol has only 70% of the energy output of gasoline. Be aware an avoid pumps that say they use E10 (10% ethanol). At the current price of gasoline, every MPG counts.

lol, most definitely HotShot, every company is different, but I am happy using Chevron, they have techron additive too, so that lowers MPG's even more, BUT in the end, it keeps a clean system for you (not sure if they have enough techron additives in your car are not).

Shell in Northern California also uses "up to" 10% ethanol. Each gas pump has a label with this warning.

In Oregon 10% ethanol is mandated by state law. Couple of years ago the premium gas was exempted, but very few stations carry it and it costs about 15%-20% more then ethanol blend.

All the Mobil stations I go to are 10% ethanol . I'm getting avg of 20MPG on my 350-AWD. Hopefully with the warmer weather, it'll get better.
I have no idea how people get over 25MPG with this car if you drive like a human being.

You are going to find that your car gets better mileage on certain brands than others. Ive never used Chevron, so I cant comment on it but Ive always found that my vehicles get the best mileage on Mobil and Shell and got horrible mileage on Citgo.

I've always used mobile. Car seems to run the best. The only time I use shell is if I'm in need to use my kroger gas points. I've had bad experiences with shell and mpgs. We have 94 here at some places.

In Florida it's 10% ethanol, but in some areas near water, you can get 90 octane non-ethanol gas at some gas stations (it's really for boats), but it's more expensive than the 93 Premium.
