Default Clear Coat Caliper Paint?

I painted my calipers about 6 months ago using G2 Blue. The result came out perfect, but I recently wanted to go ahead and put on lexus decals. Worrying about pealing, I ordered VHT Clear Coat (spray) to cover the area where decals are applied.

After applying decals I felt pretty confident that they were on there pretty well and would not peal, but I went ahead and applied the clear coat anyways (since I bought it already). I would NOT recommend using it at all. The entire area I cover with clear coat is completely dull now with NO GLOSS at all. I am very unhappy with the result after clear coat, however, it's not all that noticeable unless you are looking for it so I'll live.

How could the high gloss of G2 look so good, and a clear coat spray completely ruin and dull it out? You would think the spray would be "high gloss" as well.

i wonder if the 2 paint didn't go well together. i suppose you cleaned the caliper before spraying the clear?

when i did mine on the 2gs, both base and clear were same brand, and the result was very glossy

is it possible dust and stuff got under the clear that you sprayed? maybe post some pics of what it looks like.

Did you buy high gloss clear? Not a matte or satin clear?

I cleaned them good (soap a water) making sure to get ALL the grime in the area to be applied, dried and then let sit and air dry for a bit. It's consistent throughout the entire applied area so I doubt it's dirt/dust that got in the way.

I'll post pics when I can.

VHT only makes a 'gloss clear' no matte or satin clear.
