Ok... after doing a lil bit of research, I see other older models have suffered this problem, on occassion. My car does it every so often... gears 4,5, and 6 sometimes don't work because the car won't shift past 3rd, or sometimes 4th...
this is annoying as hell that a Lexus would have these kind of problems,... the car does have 161k miles on it, but nonetheless, seems rather disappointing.
Does anyone in the Houston area know a tranny specialist that would feel comfortable working on a newer model lex, and capable of replacing the solenoids??
Does anyone know where to get them?

It seems like too many people in the US took Lexus seriously when they said don't change the transmission fluid... you really have to wonder what the reasoning is when Lexus Canada says change it every 60K miles. And yes, you certainly can change it I have already changed mine once and will do it again soon. It costs so little that I really see no reason not to have it done far more often than even Lexus Canada says. I think I paid Toyota like $60 last time.

As usual, a manufacturer's definition of "lifetime" is an arbitrary number that is usually far shorter than how long us, the consumer, would actually like something to last.

thats called a LIMITED lifetime fluid change…. i say change it… BINARYJAY is the lexus dealership in canada recommend you changing the fluid at 60K or do you have a different owners manual….?

I purchased a 2006 certified Lexus GS 300 in 2010 and I am having this same problem. The solenoids are getting stuck in 3 & 4 gear.
When I purchase the car I was told my Lexus in Columbia SC that I never have to change the transmission fluid but after reading this and doing some research on the Canada
service information I wish I had never listed to Lexus of Columbia. I have had many problems with this car since purchasing it and I think it had made me turn against this brand.
Can someone tell me if I have the transmission change if it will correct the problem once new fluid gets into the system.

A fluid change/flush would be the cheapest option moving forward. It's not a guaranteed fix, but if it does fix it it'll be a fraction of the cost of a replacement transmission. We dont know enough about your car and the work done on it to definitively say a fluid change will work.
