New discovery (for me) on 3GS
I set the car to cruise at 68MPH. As I approached a downgrade, the speedometer started creeping up. At about 70-72MPH, the car downshifted into 5th (to maintain the set speed). Didn't realize the car is programmed to do so under this scenario.

yup i'm always driving in cruise control n i've noticed this as well

ya i notice this in cruise control when I'm going down a hill. Instead of releasing the gas it downshifts to slowdown faster.

it senses if it's continuous downhill, it uses engine braking instead of burning out your brakes (brake fade)
