Default Which tires wear faster?

Took my GS 450H into the dealer for the 25K service and they rotated the tires for me. I noticed that there is quite a bit more tread on the rear than the front now. Since I used to drive FWD cars before, I wasn't sure what to make of that and asked the dealer if it's normal to put the tires with more wear on the rear and was told because the car is RWD the rears wear quicker.

Has everyone else experienced their rear tires wearing quicker than their fronts? Just wanted to be sure since I haven't had the car long enough to be sure.

A compelling case for regular rotation.

In most cases front tires will have more wear then the rears even if its rwd. Front turn, stop and wearing more then rears.

Kcook,

Knowing this should make the more frequent purchase of tires less of a surprise. Ironically, I know people who have staggered setups who are blown away when their rubber wears out long before they thought it should, and are faced with significant replacement costs. Friends with Corvettes readily come to mind.

You need to get tires that are not directional so you can flip them. I ll be happy to get 15k out of my tires and I always buy new rims before I need tires.

I recently replaced my original 18" Michelin's at 36k. Always rotated them at 5k.

Thanks for all the input, I feel better with the tire rotation now.
