Default ES350 is more quiet than the GS350???

I drop my car to dealership yesterday. They gave me an ES350 as loaner.
After I drove, I found the ES350 is more quiet than my 08'GS350.
The ES350 using the Michelin's tires. However, My gs350 is with the Firestone tires.
Is it the major difference to cause more quiet?

nah, the ES was engineered to be as quiet as possible. i remember seeing one of the old lexus commercials where they use liquid filled engine mounts to keep vibrations to a minimum. tires can make a difference but i noticed the same thing when i got an ES loaner once too.

I never really felt torque steer with the ES unless I floored it.

The ES is a quieter car, but it was suppose to be a baby-LS of some sort.

The ES is a car engineered for people who are dead inside. It's quiet, it insulates you from the road, its undramatic.

The GS is meant for people who like to drive, you feel the road, you can hear the engine and the exhaust, it engages you in the driving experience.

One of the issues that causes confusion is that most car manufacturers are consistent. e.g. All BMWs are for people who like to drive, and all Mercedes are for people who are dead. Lexus confuses people because they may expect a car for dead people but they get a driver's car and they don't like it.

yeah I agree the ES has a quiet cabin but its directed to those who are older no offense to those, but thats what I see driving it and even when inside it, its not like I can speed in it.

I never really noticed a huge difference. All Lexus are like tombs to me.

Es is a car for long trips, going on a ramp that says 20 mph doing 15 mph. Following speed limit, and hitting every bump on the road not to feel it . Honestly I like the ES a lot, but major thing that I hate would be the FWD. When it is floored it definatly gives that torque steer. I always said 275 horse power for a FWD is a lot.

The ES is for those who want a Camry but with a Lexy badge!

Could the fact that it's FWD be the reason why it's quieter? Just curious..

I own both an 06 GS 300 and an 07 ES 350. both are basically quiet comfortable cars with the GS having a SLIGHTLY sportier feel. I do enjoy both and the GS is my daily driver while the ES is my wife's. IMHO, the GS is far from BMW competition handling wise. That said, it is a much more reliable vehicle needing far less maintenance and an enjoyable daily driver albeit a bit twitchy in the high speed handling and windy day arena.

I will agree with the wind issue where the car felt as though it was going to fly away. ES is just not the sporty car but the GS has some flaws, its def. not a BMW but tuned correctly it could have that potential I think. So yes your correct the GS is not BMW but it is no comparison to the ES they are two different chassis and have a different approach and I think drive completely different.

Don't forget that ES has passenger tires where as GS has low-profile. If I recall, GS engine is liquid-shock-mounted as well.

LOL, you know damn well what the Buff books say about our 3GS. Trash it left and right. It's open season on the styling, handling, steering, character.. everything.

It's even worse now that the purported Next Gen Gs is making the rounds in the guise of the LF-Gh. Just one more opportunity to take a potshot at our GS.
