I had my first encounter with the dreaded one headlight out until turning off/on the other day. Well actually I wasn't sure if it was all the way off... of course we all notice this when stopped behind a shiny dark colored car and I might have noticed that it had gone all dim rather than off but it was hard to tell.
The other side effect I noticed was that the fog light on that side wouldn't turn on either but I suppose it was just because the circuit is linked (can't turn fog lights on without lowbeams without modification).
Rather than farting around, I just went ahead and replaced both bulbs with some new standard Philips XenEcos that I had in my backup parts repository. I'm pretty sure that the bulbs I took out were original factory bulbs and chances are were getting near their end of life I suppose.

I have Toshiba-Harison 4300K
I stayed with the Toshiba-Harison 4300K and got it off ebay from this seller for $20 a piece:

So far so good..only thing is that I do sometimes hear a whining sound from the headlamps.
Does anyone else hear this as well?

DS4 Bulbs
The above comment is absolutely correct!
On my 07' GS350 I tried DS2 bulbs and they did the exact same thing. If it is not a true DS4 buld from a reputable manufacturer it will not work properly.
On a whole different note:
I ordered a set of Garax DS4 bulbs from someone who posts here often, they were sent to my address, were not left at my apt and apparently brought to leasing office and left there with the manager. No delivery slip left and no product in their office. Shipper not helping me out with this, telling me Im SOL, so I have USPS doing a re-trace of entire process now. Im not holding my breath and out $100. Oh well right!

I'm also experiencing the one light that keeps cutting out. I just had my car re-painted and thought that maybe the headlight was removed for that purpose and I'm getting shorted out. So thanks for your post and I'll just replace both lamps.

I have experienced the same problem and if they are not true d4s bulbs are the universal types that fit d4s and d4r d4c they will not work and you will experience the same issues. I am sticking to stocks for now until I can find a better option..

It's the sound of a transformer... you can hear it sometimes near high voltage power lines, inside various home electronics like TVs etc. basically anything with a power supply can make that sound. Likely it's the ballast.

My eye just looked at this topic and opened it ... a few days ago I ordered some TOYOTA OEM D4S lights looking like original ones at aliexpress ... It was ... 15 euro for a set of 2! With all the prices I see here now I bet they are fake :-)
