Default Scary, Tire Sliced like knife!

Ok, so the new wheels and tires I have are scubbing and on the driver side it subbed the plastic away from the lining around the fender and revieled the metal edge. It has been slicing into my tire every time I scrub. The people at Discount Tire and Firestone say that it doesn't look like I'll have any type of catastrophic failure and I should be fine, but it still scares me. I spent about an hour last night grinding and rolling the back portion of the lip to keep it from rubbing, but I am still getting rubbing when going over and around some bumps.

I'm hoping after removing the plastic/rubber/metal trim, the rubbing won't cut my tire anymore. I'm thinking I might have to go to a 275/30 tire as oppossed to the 275/35 tires that are on the rim (20x10 +40 rear).

Opinions? I'm really look for feedback on two thinks.

1. What do you think regarding the safety of driving on the tire in the condition it is in?

2. What should I do about the rubbing? (new tire, more grinding, rolling)

275/35 in the rear? thats certainly your problem. should be a 275/25 to be proper if your doing a 245/30 up front

Maybe you should consider getting wheels and tires that fit.

The tire is definitely over spec by about an inch. Put a 245/30 on there it will give you a little stretch on a 10 and grant you more clearance, and you ll be running in spec with the factory diameter. Then when you ve finally be convinced to put coilovers on the car you won t have to deal with this issue again!!

If they care more about looks than quality engineering then shouldn't they be driving a Camaro or some other **** like that!

Kids these days. When our generation is gone, America will be a land of retards where nobody knows how anything works. Probably a lot like Somalia.

Maybe you're right. At least Canada will still be alright!

I'm not sure where Somalia comes into this, though...

ok back on topic...

I just ordered a set of 265/30/20s for the back. Should I have any problem fitting them on my rear 20x10 +45 wheel TSW wheel?

I understand that with these tires, my rear tire/wheel will be about .5" shorter than the front. I will probably put 245/30/20 on the front. I would assume all rubbing issues would be resolved at the point. So here is a summary:

Going from: 245/35/20F & 275/35/20R

Going to: 245/30/20F & 265/30/20R

Will it work?

By the way, I was under the impression and explained to that these wheels and tires would fit perfectly with no rubbing issues what so ever. I do quite a bit of research before purchasing anything. It's not a big deal to me, but it is important to know that I only purchased these after heavely researching them. They were previously installed on another Club Lexus members GS350 with a 1.2" drop. Both of us figured we shouldn't have any problem putting them on a stock height GS350. His fenders were rolled, but he indicated they didn't need to be with these tire/wheels. They were just done so because of the new set of wheels/tires he has ordered.

I'm not mad or angry at anyone, I'm just trying to get the issue resolved so I don't blow a tire. Perhaps the pictures up top are a bit misleading. Look at the new pictures in my previous post, and you will see how the fitment really looks. Remember, I'm not running a 20x11.5 +10 setup, I'm running a very conservative 20x10 +40 setup.

will it work? it should work

going from a 245/35/20 to a 245/30/20 (correct size for the front) your front tires will now be 1/2" smaller in height of the sidewall (or 1" overall smaller)

going from a 275/35/20 to a 265/30/20 your rear tires will now be approx. 11/16" smaller in height of the sidewall (or approx. 1 5/16" overall smaller)

the only problem i see if using a 245/30/20 up front and a 265/30/20 in the rear. these are not the same overall diameter therefor your rear tires will be 1/4" taller in height of the sidewall (or 1/2" overall taller) than your front tires.

Just get wheels and tires that are all the same size and within spec and call it a day.

245/30 all around or a 285/25 on the rear
