Default Roof rail paint pealing

I have a 2008 GS350. Was cleaning the car up and noticed the paint was peeling off the roof trim on the driver side. This car has always been in a controlled temp. I took it to my local dealership yesterday and was given a quote of $782.33 to replace this 3/4 x 6' strip of trim. The serviceman I could tell hated just to give me the quote. Please need good advice on the peel and rip off. Thanks, Marvin

I was told the rail is aluminum and could not be painted. Only try and re glue or replace it. I am halving the same problem on a 2008 GS350

who says aluminum can't be painted?

the hood is aluminum and it's painted.

Mine has also peeled up a little, so I need to superglue it or something.
But I'm unsure if I can just pull it off without breaking any clips?

I'm surprised it took this long. Mine is parked outside 24/7. maybe the heat helps keep the foil stuck on the moulding.

Mine had the same problem of the vinyl sticker coming off the edges especially along the windscreen front and back.

Did anyone manage to remove the whole entire sticker and replace it with a 3M vinyl sticker?

One issue I see is getting a piece of vinyl sticker in the length required to run it from bonnet/windscreen edge to rear windscreen/boot edge.

my drip moulding peeled up in a few more places.

Busted out the superglue and stuck it back. What a piece of crap.

Stainless steel can't be painted (well), and vinyl wrap is not durable.

Im dealing with this now with my 07 GS350. The car has always had a good coat of wax and is kept in a garage. I asked Lexus about this on 2 occasions, once they said they never heard of it and the last time I went in for service the guy said it was rare but he seen it happen to an LS460. But of course all they would do was give me an estimate on having it repaired which is $1,200. How can they make a profit on something that was a flaw from the factory? I took it to the local body shop and they said they could coat it and then paint it for $650. I think I may just peel it off and sell the car as its currently for sale now.

$650 and $1200 are both rip offs.

Get some more quotes. Two strips of moulding should not cost that much to paint

Default Peeling Roof Moldings

I am having the same problem on my 2010 LS460. The paint has peeled/come off on the back left side and is starting to come up on the right side. The service manager at the local dealer quoted $665 each to replace. We are exploring other options with local body shops. This should be covered by Lexus regardless of the car's age. It is a flaw in manufacturing.

I noticed this is starting to happen on my molding as well, but I don't want to shell out $700 - How is the superglue holding up?

still holding up.

superglue holds anything.

At some point, the moulding will probably peel in too many places for me to bother with superglue anymore.
I'll either go naked stainless steel or get it painted.

Default Same is happening for me...

I have a 2010 GS350 and the whole left drip molding is chipping from the inside (side closer to the roof) in which super glue would not help. The "stainless steel" base looks bronze/gold color on my car. Does not look good. I think mine started at the friction point where the trunk lid touches the molding ever so slightly but over time.... Not looking to pay some crazy number for this to be fixed as some of you guys are being quoted.

I have an 07 as well, and both were replaced for free when the car was under the 50,000 mile warranty. If this is a rare situation , then I struck gold because it's happening again on both sides. My car is garage kept and I rarely park in the sun and still has original paint.
