Bad Accident this morning

Shouldn't really matter, but may make things a bit easier. I was the front car in a 3 car pileup where the car behind me was pushed into me by the one two behind me (all three of us had State Farm as well). Took a long time to finally settle things as they didn't want to use new parts due to the age of my vehicle ('97). My shop also pushed back on State Farm and got me what I expected. Adjuster told me claims had to be 70-80% of value to declare it a loss. I hope they total yours but won't surprise me if they want to repair given it's value. Probably depends on any suspension/unibody damage that's not visible until they have it apart. If it's just the visible damage + airbags, I'd think it could be repaired for well less than replacement value.

Can the steering wheel air bag be replaced without replacing the entire steering wheel? If not, that's $1,600 alone. Also, the body shop, who State Farm recommended, told me they can't order the parts, they have to go through the Lexus dealer who then gets them from Lexus...so there's not going to be much of a discount there.
Doing some math yesterday on just how much it would cost for parts just to replace the airbags/systems.....$8,000. That doesn't include new leather seat covers and the labor required to do it. There has to be unibody damage...the left side doors don't close and they're all compacted together. Really and truthfully, the only parts I can see that weren't affected are the right side doors, the roof and maybe all the glass (all windows).
The smell that is in that car is God-awful and will never come out. I had a full 20oz coffee that is now splashed everywhere, on tan interior no less. Even if it's not totalled, they'll get it fixed and I'll immediately drive it next door to the Lexus dealership and get a new one. One way or another, I will never drive this car again.

Well color change does not come cheap and to be done right it around anywhere from 7-10k for a complete color change. Just from looking at the damage I would say it going to get totaled out. Your front end is going to cost in part around 4500 and the back end with more than likely have to be cut and replace along with part which should run anywhere from 8-12k for the rear. so You then have to get everything repainted you will be way over 20k and most insurance companies will stop adding when they reach the 70% to value. Let me remind you that it thier value and not what KBB says, it what they can find a replacement for same year, options and miles anywhere. So you may come out ahead if they have a high resale value where you live.

"Preliminary" estimate came in....$39,074. He said preliminary because it will be more than that, that's just all that he can see that needs to be replaced. The highest "retail" value I could find for the options and mileage I had was $40,425 on NADA's site. Needless to say I fully believe it is a total loss. They said they had a lot of paperwork to fill out and pictures to take and then submit to State Farm's claims center. Since they're an approved body shop (who they actually told me to take it to) there will likely not be an adjuster that will have to come out.

Glad you're alright! That is very good news from the body shop! I'd say it's time to start shopping. If you can live with a smaller trunk and no AWD I would highly suggest the h--it's a lot of fun!

so in my research thus far, is Lexus waiting to release the GS460 until Spring? Looking on Edmunds.com they actually have 2012 Lexus GS460 "target launch, Spring 2011"....Is that going to be the G4?

My dealer is telling me Q2 2012 for a 2013 model 4GS.

make sure you go through the person at faults insurance. if not your rates will go up. glad to see your o.k but for some reason many insurance companies and customers try to send you to your own insurance when they are at fault. which affects you. just make sure you go through the person at faults insurance.

yeah, that has been taken care of today. I got the "at-fault driver's" claim number this morning and relayed that to the body shop and Enterprise Rent-A-Car so that they submitted everything under his policy. The body shop has submitted their estimate along with the VIR and photos to State Farm. It now goes to the Total Loss department for review and I will hopefully hear something early next week.
