Default Gear shift **** alternatives?

Hello CL,

Well, I did something completely stupid and idiotic a week or so ago. I managed to break the wood in my gear shift ****. I snapped it clean across and a piece actually comes out. I overtightened the shift **** and that was the result. I tried to get it fixed under warranty but they wouldn't do it, understandably.

I'm trying to figure out my options right now. The dealership said a replacement shift **** is $750! That seems crazy expensive for a shift ****.

I've resorted to looking on ebay for a used alternative. I'm trying to make sure the wood matches up however. I have the black interior with what I believe is the California burn walnut wood. What other wood interiors are there? The descriptions from some ebay auctions are pretty vague so I'm just going by visuals. (e.g. http://cgi.ebay.ca/06-09-LEXUS-GS350...item19bf6e3907)

I did a search and saw a post about Grazio and they make some pretty nice shift ***** but they're out of my price range as well ($290 or so --http://www.grazio-co.com/lexus_gs/bcr_shift_02up.jpg).

The F-Sport shift **** is cheap ($60 through Sewell Lexus) but I don't think it will match the interior as well... Does anyone have the F-Sport shift **** in their GS?

Does anyone know of any other shift ***** that I could try? Is the shift **** from the ebay auction the same wood as mine? Here is a picture of what's left of my shift ****:

Any help (or sympathy for my idiocy) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

They have countless OEM lexus shift ***** on eBay for < $50.

I wonder where they all come from (including the kijiji guy)... people's shift ***** going missing?

$740 for a shift ****? Whaa... no way. Didn't realize you could actually screw it until it pops it's top... good to know. I've always just screwed it until there's a bit of resistance and to the right position then I stop.

Thanks for all the suggestions. batman75, I saw your post in the Grazio thread. Those shifters are super sweet but also super expensive. $350 USD for a shift **** is definitely out of my price range. Wonder why they went up from $250 a year ago. Guess they figured they could get away with a higher price...

passnu2, again, thanks for the offer. Funny story: I picked my car up from the dealership this morning. We were trying to replicate the rattling noise. Problem is that they repaved the roads around the dealership a few months ago so they're super smooth. The technician (master technician) who came along for the ride felt sorry for me (he's personally gone on at least 5 road tests with me over the years) so he got the service advisor to just comp me a new shift **** because he "felt sorry for me" (and all GS owners with rattling cars).

Anyway, I guess I have a happy ending regarding this story. I just need to get everything else fixed before my warranty expires (I'm at 79,045 km out of 80,000 km)...

I didn't see the '06 listed for the FSport. Is the thread cut the same on all of the GS models?

The OP's car is a 2008, mine is a 2009. I can't comment on the 2006 models! Perhaps someone else can chime in?

But if I were to guess, I'd say all GS models have the same thread.

Thanks guys! My first piece of non-stock gear on the car will be the FSport **** I guess.
I come from the diesel truck side of things, so it will take me awhile to get used to not having mods that give me power and go the opposite of my Duramax.
Having EFILive really spoiled me.
I wish they made it for Toyota/Lexus vehicles.
