In my humble opinion this "feature" is the result of poor design. Since my salesperson never mentioned it I also thought the "normal" way of lifting the wiper would do the job. I learned after the first time so now I just lift it and clean under it. I will also try the "feature" in the future.

i really don't understand why you need to do this manually. just turn on your wipers, and when it is high enough to clear the hood, turn off the engine and the wipers will stay at that position. clean front windshield and wipers as required. then turn engine back on and turn wipers off, and your wipers will go back to its normal position. is it really necessary to go through all the manual lifting of wipers?

O lord..... Why didn't I think of this when I was washing my car .

I've always KNOWN to lift my wipers before pulling them up though..... First time my cousin washed my car (as a nice gesture since I slept a few hours in the 3 days I had non-stop work+school) he accidentally did what designo did in his previous pictured post. On top of that he left crazy water spots (his house is caked with calcium in the water) on the car.... Needless to say the car hit the shop after the semester ended, along with a long 2-day straight detail on my part to remove the whoopsies he did though

You can also just hit the "mist" real quick and the wipers will move up just enough and stop.

I just had my car serviced and found that the wiper blades are below the hood after the car wash. After reading this thread I was able to fix the issue. For those that want to know where in the Owners manual it's on page 47/48.

I just had to do this on my 2008 ES 350 that I just purchased. My wipers were locked in the snow position. I got the answer from this thread. Looked in my owner's manual and sure enough, the procedure is there.

I just found this amazing community. Thanks to everyone for helping me! Had a snow and ice storm in NC 2 days ago and could not clear all the ice when I turned on my wipers on my 2015 ES350. After turning the car off they did not retract fully. The ice likely pushed them into (what I have since learned) the "snow" position. Saw a video on YouTube about unscrewing the arms and then I re-searched adding the Lexus qualifier. Then I found this great site. So I'll keep it "snow" for now. Very happy I didn't break something! Thanks to all, Marty
