Valve Springs Replaced - Now thick white smoke clouds and nasty smell!

Lead Lap
I haven't gotten a letter on my late build 2008 (built June 2008). I called my dealership to have them run the VIN to check for recalls and they confirmed that my car doesn't apply. That's also what it shows when I log in to Lexus.com and check the recalls tab. Who knows....

Guys, I can hardly believe this... but I looked under the hood just now and now my engine cover is missing!
Of course, everybody in service is already gone for the day but this is turning into a gong show of mistakes. I wonder where the hell it's gone to, how do you just misplace something like that?
Also... why would my engine cover be removed in the first place if all they did was drain and fill my oil?

They perhaps took the cover off to inspect for anything possibly related to the smoke you complained about, then found they had broken the push clips, then they had zero in stock. So they chose to not to slap it on, all could've been okay if you were the type of person that never had an idea how to open an engine hood let alone the knowledge about a cover over an engine.
Did you check out the trunk?

That happened to me the last time I was in. The day after I had my springs installed I noticed that all three covers were gone. I went back up to the dealership and they put them in. Of course I didn't realize at the time that they gave me someone else's scratched up covers. By the time I realized it I just didn't care anymore. Now, if they were carbon fiber ...
So ... I would make sure they give you the right one and that all of the fasteners are installed correctly. You're right, btw ... there is no reason to remove any of the covers just to change the oil.

Hi Jay, hopefully everything is good for you now and you get the engine covers back. Any other differences you've noticed post the valve spring replacement?

As for differences, it's hard to really say - honestly I don't drive the car very much and haven't really been out with it much since it was done (and subsequently repaired the second time). It's smoother, quieter, and seems snappier but it's all really subjective. If I notice anything else, I'll be sure to post.
