Agree with Henry. They can view all the data logs with their scanners

you should have busted out your camera phone and recorded the engine redlining in neutral.

would have made an interesting documentary

Not neutral... The amazing thing actually is that he was redlining while locked in drive all while his car wasn't physically moving... o.O

I would have thought RPM being that high would boil the ATF fluid and destroy the torque converter fins. In fact, I doubt you could get to a very high RPM while in gear...the ECU would probably prevent you from doing it.
I wouldn't want to try it out either way.

there was a TV segment about toyota recently....... They said that something like this wouldn't throw an error code in the black box.

if that is true, does it still log the gas and brake positions?

well, I hate to accuse a fellow member of telling a tall tale but mechanically, a torque converter would not allow this high of a stall speed. At least not a stock TC. Hopefully for his sake, if it was indeed idling rough, perhaps a DTC has been stored to indicate so.

Unfortunately, it's not an April fool's joke. The whole situation is a cluster$%#$. I was on the phone with Lexus customer service to see if a Toyota dealership could do the diagnosis. Toyota said to go to Lexus, but I'm not going to have my car towed 120 miles for them to say they can't find anything (my car is out of Lexus roadside assistance coverage)

It may have been a computer glitch, and since no one else has experienced it, hopefully it's isolated. However, I'm not letting anyone else drive it just in case. Think what you will...I just hope it doesn't happen to you.

That's what I was thinking.

He said "I shifted in to neutral...no change"

I think a camera phone can record this situation and U'll have your proof. I thought N would kick it out of gear.. but wow... a crazy idea but try shift into manual gear and down gear manually.

BTW, not sure if U know but it's also not recommend to turn off the engine while the car is in motion... but you can hold down the START button to force the engine turn off.

U shouldn't turn the car back on, just tow it to dealer, the log should be fresh in the system.

Wow, I thought '06 pass this kind of problem... I guess I better have some contingency plan.
